    What PS?

I told him that his PSU is adequate for running his setup. It might save him $200; that contributes something. It's not my fault that your icon is a clown, and you didn't read the reviews.

    What PS?

Yes. Jag87 is probably a power supply vendor. Sure looks like (and acts) like a clown.

Needs opinions on an LCD screen.

Now that the HP is sold out I would probably go with one of the 22" panels. It should look good for a couple of years plus it costs much less than the Samsung.

Needs opinions on an LCD screen.

I have the HP f2105, which uses the same panel and the 21" wide Samsung. Only complaint so far is that the DVI flickers in games (VGA does not), and the screen is blank on DVI when booting windows. Might be a video card issue. Otherwise, the panel is S-PVA, bright, has vibrant colors, and has...

What do you think would be faster?

The K6-II 450 will almost certainly be faster than both of the others. The processor will first check L1 cache for the data. If the data is not in L1 it will look in L2. I don't know about this specific application, but if you are only running one program the required data will probably fit in...

    22" LCD Recommendations

Well, I just bought an HP f2105. It's a year-old model that's 21" and uses a true 8-bit Samsung S-PVA panel. The viewing angle, color quality, blacks, and text sharpness are all fine. The panel supposedly has an 8ms gray to gray response time but THG measured ~22ms using their method. Other...

So...do you think that I should...

...send back my hard drive. Yesterday I noticed my computer got really really slow (I was using IE), so I shut it down normally. Hit the power...hard drive spins up and goes "click click." Uh oh. Weird thing is it actually loads windows XP - but it took 10 minutes to load (literally). Windows...

    Pentium 3 board

I had the large electrolytic caps fail on an AOpen MX3S-T board. It doesn't look like AOpen makes the MX3S-T anymore nor any other Pentium 3 board. Does anyone still make a Pentium 3 board (i.e. a recent one that doesn't have bad caps), like for embedded applications? This application...

    Performance hit?

Let me put it this way - unless you bench the two machines you probably won't notice much difference, and both will become obsloete at the same time. However, flight sims are usually CPU bound, and it's only $50 or $60 for the extra cache, so why not. Benches

    HD Question

Update and questions: Bought a new SCA adapter that is LDV compliant and now I can boot from the Ultra2 controller on the adapter. Now I have a weird problem with the termination. The drive boots without the terminator (weird). That's probably making it run much slower that it should right...

    68 pin versus 80 pin scsi ??

I'm actually facing this problem right now. I bought an SCA adapter that's terminated, but it's not LVD compliant. I can't run the drive in Ultra2 SCSI LVD mode, but I'm not sure if it's the adapter or my SCSI card. I ordered an LVD compliant SCA adapter to see if it makes a difference, and...

What do you think of this power supply?

Your current PS is probably fine anyway, but one thing that (it seems) everyone overlooked about the first PS is that it can put out over 18A on the +12V line. Notice that it has two +12 rails. The manufacturer claims they are "independent," but that it not entirely true. Together, they put out...

    HD Question

Yeah that could be it because I notice no difference between the modes. Is there any program/utility that will tell you how the adapter has the drive set up (i.e. Sync/Async, Wide, etc)? I googled but no luck so far.

    $10,000 UBER SYSTEM BUILD

Local cable isp (Adelphia) vs Verizon DSL

I had Roadrunner (Time Warner), but I live in a large apartment building and the speed just tanked after coming back to school from winter break. It was so bad that AIM couldn't connect sometimes. So I switched to Verizon because it just became available in my area. I have 1.8Mb/s down 160Kb/s...

    Will a P4 800fsb work in a 533fsb motherboard?

    I think the 2.8 has a multiplier of 14 (2800/200) so 14*133 = 1866 on a 533fsb.

Just in case anyone is trying to squeak a little extra range out of their wireless card... Aluminum foil. Connecting two routers

Thanks for the help - I will try this tomorrow. The only thing...

I'm running IE 6 with service pack 1 and all the latest updates applied. One day I noticed everything became really slow, and according to task manager IE takes up 100% of the CPU - no matter what it's doing. I disabled active scripting and scripting of java applets and it behaves normally...

    Is a tnt2 3.3V agp card or 1.5V?

I used a Dell TNT2 M64 in my P4T533 for awhile without incident. I think all the Dell M64s are AGP 2.0 compliant. Older TNT2s will probably have issues.

    radeon 8500LE vs. 9000 vs. 9000 Pro

I think that the 9000s are DX8 parts not DX9, despite the naming convention. I'd get the 8500, but any of those cards should last awhile for light gaming and general use.

    Need help building divx machine

It's just an asthetic thing. I can't notice too much difference whether it on or off - especially on a TV. If I had the choice I wouldn't buy new stuff just to crank it up, but that's just because it doesn't do much for me.

    Abit SI7

Yeah I know - RDRAM's had it's day in the sun for now. Mabye SIS will continue making chipsets. Microsoft designed Windows XP to run ok on 128, and things run well on 256. I think there are 2 reasons I don't need more than 256 now: 1.) I don't use any of the extremely limited number of...

    Need help building divx machine

If you don't slide the post processing bar to the higher quality settings your CPU and mobo should be able to handle it. You could always add a DIVX decoder board if it's a problem. You should really buy a bigger (mabye a cheap 20GB) hard drive. A Radeon 7500 is a good and cheap card. The video...

Best video card for MS Flight Sim?

blcjr, With the 9500 you should easily get a 25% increase by switching CPUs. I got about a 30% increase overclocking to 2133 on my system. This defiately shows that sims are CPU dependent with resonably modern video cards.

Best video card for MS Flight Sim?

The video card does matter (somewhat - FS is really CPU dependent), but it depends on how old it is. The game was somewhat playable on my old Celeron 400 with a V2 SLI at 800x600 with a medium level of detail. Then, I upgraded to a P4 1.6a. I ran the same V2s in there for a while and saw a...
