I've tried it flat, upside down, on it's right side, on it's left side, on it's front, and on it's back. I also had it tiltled at many angles. At one point I held it and gently moved it around as it was clicking. None of these work. I'm going to try the freezer job. I had read about it several...
Hi, let me describe the situation.
I've had a Maxtor 20Gb (model 52049U4) hard drive for some time now. I haven't had many problems with it (minor things). Recently I had a small IC burn out (many of you may remember my thread a while ago about it) and the advice I got was to get an identical...
Any suggestions on where to get another controller board? I suppose I could buy another drive off of ebay but do you think it would work? Also that wouldn't be so good to have to buy an entire drive just to get the controller. I would have to switch the board if I wanted to use either drive...
I just heard one of my hard drives clicking erratically. I turned of my computer and checked the cables and such. Turned it back on and it kept doing the same. Checked cables once more and rebooted. This time one big click then it reset and sounded fine but it didn't detect it. So I restart one...
Most of your turkeys are might be coming from around where I live. Soooo many poultry plants and farms here. Tyson HQ is only about 2 blocks from my house (it's not in the city at all, it's in it's own field with a plant next to it. I could trow a rock and, well maybe hit it.) Have fun this...
I have little belief in the asteroid theory. I have been researching an idea that is best summed in this article by New Scientist.
I have little to add as the article pretty much tells what there is to it. I think it's the best idea yet to explain the extinction. What are your thoughts on this...
The high end workstation boards are meant for high end workstation cards. Almost every WildCat ard I've seen has taken up the first PCI slot. Can't be that crucial, sure to some but not the majority.
If they don't like the alternative solutions made by the CARD makers, then, well, they can buy a 9700 and still have a DX9 card that's similar to GFFX. :)
I don't see how not having a feature is any different than having extra features, except that you gain something instead of missing out. This is especially evident when you look at the CPU market. Intel has had several extra instruction sets that are specific to their chips. In that case you...
Long hair is for sure better, but in the new shots she just look misproportioned and wrong. The facial expression shots and the big close up are both very nice. She's really cute in those, almost life-like. I can almost feel the emotion in those expressions. The wrinkles in the nose, the...
The numbers matter. You can't get the price performance ratio by diregarding them. End-users need to know numbers so they can make informed decisions based on personal opinion. The other issues are important to enthusiasts (possible future developers) like myself like to know all there is to...
I'm gonna have to disagree. I almost thre up when I saw the new shots they had up. *shudders* Wrong I say, just wrong. The full body shots are fine, but the head is just not right.
I'll just point out a couple things that may be taken as a flame but aren't in any way intended as such.
Those numbers were through the 3rd quarter, before the 9700 was out. The 4th quarter numbers will be out kind of soon and I think Nvidia will have lost a little to the 9700.
Nvidia and...
Agreed. I don't use SFF but I'm looking into it, an idea I have, not the "cubes." It would be best for that to have an alternative. We'll see and we can hope they make a change.
Well I've seen it multiple times. Some cards would almost rub the fan if they were in the slot below it. I was just looking at the pictures again and this system draws heat from outside to cool it. So the whole having a slot free doesn't apply. I agree they need some alternatives but this might...
True 9700 will be cheaper by then but how much cheaper? And how do we know one of these cards won't come out OEM at a price of around $325, not too far off from where 9700 should be by then (whenever then is). Yeah they're both DX9 but in some respects GFFX goes beyond the DX9 spec. That's what...
About the cooling system. Do you currently have a card with a fan? If so you should know that you're supposed to have that first slot open to help airflow. This forces you to do that, not such a big deal in my book. I don't think you're going to see many earth shatteringly fast leaps in speed...
True there will be 2 version, but I feel that both will outperform the 4600 and the 9700. I think the lower clocked version will be at least 2x faster than the 4600, though I could be wrong. If the price of the lower clocked FX is close to the 9700 and it even eeks out a performance advantage...
Hmmm, funny how in most other reviews I've read ( invcluding the article from the site that runs the forums you're now posting in) it barely, if even, beats the 4600 by twice as much. Your example isn't consistent. It shows over 2x the performance (almost 3) but it's in a minority of results...
Thanks for pointing that out. I didn't read the article again before I posted so I thought I'd add the MX part just in case. So now show me where a 9700 leaps even close to this.
ATI's price list. That should settle any debate on price. We'll have to see what street prices are on the new Nvidia card. Show me a benchmark where the 9700 consistently beats the GF4 x2. Nvidia claims 4x the performance of the GF4 which will mean it can certainly beat it by 2 fold. That's not...
I don't see how it's backwards. I think those ads (as stupid as they are, and I don't think I can think of anything more stupid than the parodies people come up with based on those ads) are more against Windows than X86. They've already made moves to use more PC standards to improve sales. This...
Ok man, I did some research. I looked all over PNY's site. I found that they have product numbers like:
6432VHSWM8G09TWK
6432ZESEM4G17T
6432ZESWM4G17TWN
The first 5 characters (and last three in the first example) on the good stick match this pattern. I would say the PNY stick is the good...
I suggest you just go Newegg all the way. You might spend an extra $20 on parts but shipping savings and the reputation you get with newegg is unbeatable. I hear Geil is OCZ and most know about them, I don't know for sure but I've heard to steer clear. I suggest looking at spending a few extra...
I believe (correct me if I'm wrong) that on most motherboards if you only use 2 DIMMs you don't need registered RAM. Howerver, if you use more than 2 you must use registered for all slots. Later.
Sorry I can't read all of this thread. Tons of good conversation and many long posts, I just don't have time.
I feel that those who cause suffering should suffer. If you harm someone in a cruel and unusual manner you should in turn be punished in a cruel and unusual way. With this guy they...
Yeah 9 is out, 8.2 is still good though. I'm ran 8.2 and just upgraded to 9 on a K6-2 350 64mb Ram and a 4.3gb hard drive. It actually runs pretty decent. Have fun, Later.
I have done this with several sets. I found that most tv's don't have audio out so I use a vcr or a reciever. I got an RCA to a mini jack cable and then a mini jack coupler (female to female) and depending on the speakers, I had to get a Y adapter for surround. That should work for you. Later.
QBM is on the memory stick it's self. I don't know if it has to be officially supported or not by AMD or even the motherboard makers so much as the RAM makers. So we may see QBM enables DDR that can simply be put into a Dual Channel DDR Hammer system (since QBM is compatable with current DDR...
Cheapest WD 100GB from a reliable source I could find it was around $130, so $99 is a damn good deal. Of course drive prices will continue to drop and in a few months all 100GB hd's will be under $100 but for now that's an excellent buy. Later.
Isn't QDR "Quad Data Rate" way in the future? QBM is just an add on to regular DDR (1 and 2 I soppose) that is said to double the bandwidth (much like Dual Cahnnel) so Dual Channel Quad Band would be like 4 times DDR, where as (from what I understand) QDR is 4 times SDRAM. Later.
