  1. AT Shot of the Day Thread

A bit of fun with intentional camera movement:
  2. AT Shot of the Day Thread

Legislature building in Edmonton silhouetted against a beautiful evening sky: Not ideal to shoot birds at night obviously, but I still enjoyed this one:
  3. AT Shot of the Day Thread

the 200-500 is definitely a great lens. you should check out Mark Smith on YouTube : https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCyGYUrC2IvaHWoX6dwEsrMA , he uses the 200-500 extensively on the D500 and D850 with some amazing results

  5. What is your favorite type of snack nut?

    Macadamia and brazil nuts
  6. "Video of the day" thread?

Thanks man. It's definitely a whole other world! I love the Nikon cameras for stills, and while the quality itself is definitely on point, I'm starting to see why most people prefer Canon, Sony, Panasonic etc for video - the lack of in-body image stabilization and poor video autofocus is...
  7. "Video of the day" thread?

A more relaxing vibe this time with a walk to the ravine, practicing a bit of video capture in slow mo, I only used the 105 macro for this one: https://youtu.be/3fKGgqr8nOA
  8. "Video of the day" thread?

Hey that was pretty damn cool! Liked and sub'd.
  9. "Video of the day" thread?

Love the shot of the day thread for photography, but I didn't want to pollute it. Anyone makes videos of any kind here? I've been into photography for the past 5+ years, and I only now finally decided to start learning a little about the basics of video. The thought has always been very...
  10. AT Shot of the Day Thread

    Dude, amazing!
  11. AT Shot of the Day Thread

A favourite from the Maligne Lookout in Jasper:
  12. AT Shot of the Day Thread

From a short trip to the rocky mountains: bird: bear: view from vermillion lakes: stopped on the side of the road somewhere towards Jasper, had to get some of that misty goodness! and another fave in B&W:
  13. AT Shot of the Day Thread

Some fun in the kitchen sink (with 105 macro): Some moon shots with the Tamron 100-400 that replaced a faulty Sigma 100-400: even heavier crop of the first already heavily cropped one: Loving it so far!
  14. AT Shot of the Day Thread

Saw tons of these just dangling off tiny threads throughout the park yesterday: They were tiny, hardly the length of a fingernail and kept blowing around in the wind making it difficult to get a shot at all. So happy a few turned out well enough to share!
  15. AT Shot of the Day Thread

Quick snap of the Ainsworth-Dyer Bridge from the north side of the Edmonton river valley at night: Dunno , it caught my eye while waiting around:
  16. AT Shot of the Day Thread

Thanks @Red Squirrel , but no, it was with its entire band of merry malaria mongers, so I just made my escape as soon as I fired off a few frames ;p

  20. Anyone else not litter? With exceptions within the law.

Years ago with an ex, she randomly throws a plastic bottle out of the car as we're driving. She couldn't understand why it wasn't OK "as long as nobody saw it". Some people, there just aren't adequate words. *sigh*
  21. Is social media detrimental vacations?

It doesn't really bother me that much, tbh i'm more amused by people that get disproportionately aggravated about it. Although I will admit that seeing people hold up a giant tablet to get a shot does make me chuckle! Lousy tourists straight up destroying nice places is a legit issue, but as a...
  22. AT Shot of the Day Thread

Thanks, glad you like it! I seem to have a defective copy which is a shame (keep getting "lens not attached" error, some others have reported the same issue). When it's working it seems to work well, I just hope the replacement will be all good. My first impressions are in line with reviews...
  23. AT Shot of the Day Thread

Thanks! I'm something of a pixel peeper, so I wasn't sure what to expect with it on my D5200. I have to say that especially for a zoom, the sharpness wide open and at 400mm is quite good, and the optical image stabilization is just magic. I'm not particularly steady when it comes to that, so...
  24. AT Shot of the Day Thread

Some early shots with the new Sigma 100-400: Still getting used to it, but so far I'm pretty happy with what I'm seeing!
  25. AT Shot of the Day Thread

Wandering around today: Although I stupidly left my camera in shutter priority with a high shutter speed, causing the iso to be jacked up a bit too much due to the dim / dull light, I was still pleased with the images nonetheless. I had hoped to capture some birds, but no such luck just yet!
  26. AT Shot of the Day Thread

Some winter fun with the macro lens:
  27. For the average person, is there really a need for a dedicated camera anymore?

No one "needs" a dedicated camera, except maybe professional photographers that might have a hard time remaining employed otherwise. "The average person" most certainly does not need a dedicated camera. With that said, I've taken so many photos that are completely impossible with smartphones...
  28. Is my password management safe or complete garbage?

Sorry man but I have to go with "complete garbage". You don't want a single or central point of failure for anything that's important to you. Nothing inherently wrong with throwing some stuff up on google drive, but anything important needs to have secure copies in other places just in case...
  29. Please recommend a noob friendly camera

You definitely won't find a $200 camera that does everything much better than your iPhone 6S. The iPhone 6S is actually really quite good! In the $200 range your only options are low end point and shoots, and modern smartphones make those irrelevant. If you're willing to spend considerably...
  30. Would cryptocurrency mining on solar be viable?

How viable it is really depends more on your budget than anything else. That, and you have to be prepared to accept that your investment can easily go to zero at any time. That said.. A few months ago I decided to put a mining rig together. I'm almost half way to ROI now, but things have...
  31. How many free hours do you have on a work day?

Wake up a few minutes before shift, roll out of bed, turn on laptop. Not too bad. But I do give a fair bit outside of my "scheduled" and "defined" duties, so there is that.
  32. AT Shot of the Day Thread

Bird! Plant life: Entrance to a cafe that looked inviting: Nice sunrise in Canmore: Action shot:
  33. Guy makes a video to help girlfriend sell her car.

It is a pretty cool video, but is someone really going to pay so much money for that car just cause of the video? Sheesh.
  34. Guy makes a video to help girlfriend sell her car.

"There have been 90 bids so far for the car, and the current bid on the site sits at $21,100. " o.O
  35. Employer lied about hourly rate, advice ?

    This thread is going places
  36. I hate Daylight Saving Time.

Agree. It's facking BS. Stop the madness already!
  37. Fat cow Uber driver rated me 1 star yesterday for no reason.

It has never occurred to me to tip an uber driver, nor that there was a rating system. I just looked back in the app, and I've used it a handful of times, it says I have a 5/5 rating. I looked at the receipt for previous trips and I don't even see any field for a tip at all, just a booking...
