So, I am lazy and worthless and been enjoying my PC too much and I have not made pictures, sorry. ;)
Anyway, my LCD died last night (transistors went out) while gaming so I am on the market for a 24in. Not sure what I want yet, do any of you have any suggestions?
My gut feeling is to go with...
I will get pictures when I get my wires tied up. It does look pretty slick, almost all parts are black except for the mean looking row of 4 sticks of ripjaws.
PC built, did the windows 7 performance test and rated a 7.4 across the board (except hard drive got a 5.9) I believe the highest score possible is 7.9. I am happy, very quiet as well.
For some reason, Amazon links don't redirect I have noticed. Anyway.....parts ordered finally!
Final list (went over budget, I couldn't help it) ;D
ASUS M4A87TD
AMD 1055T (6 cores? why not)
8gb of G.SKILL PC1600 (going 64bit Win7, wanted to take advantage)
CORSAIR 650TX
eVGA 640 GTX...
Added all to cart on newegg and the 460 is OOS.
Is this the identical card with a different color?

Just thought of one last thing, the PSU should fit without issue in a lian li 6070 case?
Alright then, my list is final then. Should I be concerned with the brand of the 460? I saw several brands a bit cheaper on amazon for the 1gb card at standard clock, however, prices have become the same this week it now appears after just checking.
Not sure how intense it will be to be honest, sorry. I am not doing any professional editing for a job or anything, just family videos. I am still waiting on my HD video camera to arrive after ordering.
OK, I think I am going to go with mfenn's first suggestion. So, that definitely sounds like the best setup for around $600?
I am excited to get this done....this thing is going to make my old dead PC feel like a commodore 64.
After further consideration on what mfenn just posted (and discovering that the 460 is incredible), I want to make sure I am not going overkill on this thing. Based on comments earlier in this thread and in other threads, the 460 almost seems like too much for my needs. Explanation:
The PC...
So, tax free weekend. I want to pull the trigger in the next 24 hours. With that said,
I am looking to get just:
Power Supply
Mobo
Processor
Ram
Video Card
All for $600ish (give or take $50)
I would like a mobo and ram that goes at 1600 speed by default as well.
Thank you for the new information. Sorry I have been off this thread for a while, been super busy with work. My hope is to have my order placed by the end of next week. The whole ram speed discussion made me sit back and think for a while and consider adjusting my budget somewhat. I still...
I would definitely say I am doing a budget build...to a point. If you call $500 to $600 a budget build (I do). I just want the best gaming and general every day use PC I can get for that price range.
Good information on the ram, I want to make sure I get a combo that runs at it's full potential.
My old ram is just DDR PC3200. I looked at the 6 cores yesterday and it would be nice to have. Based on the feedback here so far this is what I would currently consider for purchase:
Mobo
Processor
Ram
PSU
Video Card
Just over $500 total. Should be a nice performance boost over this:
ASUS...
Thank you all for the informative responses. So, 650w is overkill if I only plan to have a single GPU for the life of this PC? This is the better choice?
400CX
As for the L3 cache on the Phenom II, I was figuring it wasn't an issue based on benchmarks I have read. It showed the 955 as high...
OK, 8xx is the better option?
Not sure I have even thought about an SSD because I have a new drive sitting on my desk that was given to me.
Yes, the 9700 is mobile, that was a typo....I have a 7900GT.
1. PC will be used for gaming (WoW, Starcraft 2, TF2), HD video editing and digital picture editing/viewing.
2. My budget is $500 to $600
3. Would like all parts from USA.
4. No brand preference, just want best quality/performance for the money.
5. Will use my 21" LCD, KB, mouse, 750gb HD...
I wish I knew the answer. I believe in WAR and it's ideas but it is going to be causing many headaches for a while. It has serious potential so my advice is to wait 2 months and see if they can patch most issues really fast.
Yep, I am in the beta and I don't care about the NDA anymore since it will more than likely get lifted next week. This game is really going to struggle out of the gate. It needs at least another 6 months to be about 80% ready (which would make it on par with what could be considered a solid...
I sure wish I could get a job with Blizzard right now in the middle of the World of Starcraft development. I bet it is an exciting time, but very tiring.
Yeah, it is a coding mess. It is amazing this comes out next week and people are actually going to buy it. Well, I can't really blame the people who are having no issues/having fun, but there are plenty of people who are having game breaking issues.
Oh yeah, now my PSU is overkill, suggestions for one that will be good enough?
update: I went with the 500w Antec to save another $30. Now if only all my stuff was here by next week.
I startd to think about overclocking and how I would never do it so I changed my mobo to:
Asus A8N-E nForce4 Audio/GB-LAN/USB/PCI-E/SATA3G/DDR/ATX 64 939
Yes, I backed out on SLI too but I will just get a single DX10 card when the time comes, I know it. :)
Luckily monarch had not...
I really don't have much interest in a step-up program because you have to make your decision so quickly after purchase. However, I didn't know that BFG had a plan as well, hopefully the box will contain some information on it?
What resolution do I play? 1280x1024, but now I want to move up to 1600x1200. :)
My old rig is going to the wife, I will probably sell the video card though.
Well, I finally made my purchase yesterday and decided to go over budget a bit to get something a bit better:
Lian-Li PC-6070
OCZ PowerStream 520W PSU
DFI Lanparty UT NF4 SLI-DR
Athlon 64 X2 3800+
2 GB (2 pcs 1GB) OCZ Dual Channel Platinum
Western Digital 160GB SATA 16MB Cache
BFG...
Not yet but I may have to go the build my own route. I chose monarch because I have built my last 5 PCs but I just don't have time to mess with it like I used to so I wanted it to come ready and working.
Looks like they may get some XFX's 7900's in on the 27th at monarch.
