    Options on re-imaging pc's remotely.

Joe I'm going to look at that forum, looks like there could be some good info there, thanks! We will see about the HDD option. It's not the cheapest way to go, but if we can present a business case for a need, hopefully we can get something like that. We currently use Ghost v10 and...

    Options on re-imaging pc's remotely.

Thanks for the input so far. Netopia: That's definitely what we would like to do, the biggest thing holding us back from taking the "old" pc's to use as PXE or data repositories is that most of our PC's are leased. When they hit that lease return date, they have to go back. So, we don't...

    Options on re-imaging pc's remotely.

We use PXE at our larger corporate site, works great with Ghost. Some of our small sites don't have Servers though, that's why we want to make it all self contained if possible. Some are home offices etc. There is no other PC available to use. That's why booting off some media on the same PC...

if i want to make all the ip's on my network static...

If you have enough sense to google "static DCHP" and come up with dd-wrt (as the 1st return) then I f'ing guarantee you that you have enough smarts to get dd-wrt up and going. It's EASY. What ScottMac proposes sounds like it would not be a bad idea either. On paper that is, not looked...

    Options on re-imaging pc's remotely.

We are talking about literally thousands of machines. The purch req for those hard drives would be laughed at. :) Just to clarify, no XP Home installs are out there. Thank god... I have read a LOT of good stuff about Acronis. Maybe sometime in the future we could convince the powers...

    Options on re-imaging pc's remotely.

Ideally the fix would be calling the re-imaging routine, which would be all self-contained on the local machine. Windows and other programs would still be on the C partition. Also, when the machine is re-imaged, the routine for re-imaging the machines must of course stay intact and not be...

    Options on re-imaging pc's remotely.

Overall, our company is very slow to adopt new technologies. Vista will probably be a year away at least. Currently probably 1/2 of our offices use XP and the rest 2000. Our company is BARELY in the mid sized range. We have to go though change control meetings for the smallest things...

    Options on re-imaging pc's remotely.

This is possible, however we would prefer to keep it all on the machine if possible. That way the users would not have the ability to loose the DVD's. Additionally it could be a problem if a PC were stolen. Trade secrets etc. It's harder to get out of a building with a PC than a couple DVD's...

    Options on re-imaging pc's remotely.

I'm looking for some help coming up with a good way to re-image PC's remotely in our company. Currently what we do is created master Images using Ghost, then re-image when needed if they are having a problem that will take more than an hour or so to fix. But, many of the PC's we support are...

Thinking of doing some telecom and data cabling on the side

For a few runs I did a coupple years ago for a Federal Agency they required a printout of the certification results before they would pay. We just rented a Fluke Certification device that printed out the results on cash register style spools of paper. It only cost $45 for a day's use. That...

    Alternatives to WoW?

I tried free trials of Dungeons and Dragons, also Anarchy Online. Did not like either of them. Tried EVE and played for a few months, then got tired of waiting to travel around. Really wishing some better would come out. I've been off WoW for about 6 months, I would like something to play...

    Ghost Multicast Server?

GhostCast Server is used to image multiple computers at one time over a network, or create a image over the network from a PC. I use Ghost 7.5 quite a bit, and it comes with it. I imagine that this Ghost Multicast Server is the same thing. As far as it coming with 9.0, I don't know for sure.

    what exactly does Thunderbird do?

Don't compare an email to a forum thread. Yes, you reply below a quote in a forum to show you are responding to a particular person/conversation. Forum threads often include many speakers and a few conversations in one thread. Emails on the other hand, are generally more of a linear...

How can I get Hotmail working in Outlook?

Who knows then... Mine is a free @hotmail.com address and works just fine in OE.

How can I get Hotmail working in Outlook?

Open up OE, go to accounts and add a new account. When you walk through the wizard, it see's that it's a hotmail account when you type in the email address and automatically adds the correct server address/settings. That very well may be true, but it's really all speculation at this point.

    Good image resizer online?

Or, use paint. Start>Programs>accessories>paint Open the pic, then go to Image, then Stretch/Skew. It's not the most robust program in the world, but all Windows PC's have it.

How can I get Hotmail working in Outlook?

Right, but not after installing IE7. I'm sure they used IE to break it on purpose. My hotmail works with Outlook express, but stopped when I installed IE7. Uninstalled IE7 and *poof* hotmail & OE work together again.

1 drive in raid 0 failed, what to do?

Yeah, ditch the RAID all together. You can buy a single large drive and restore to it. It does not matter if the drive is bigger than what your array was. It will just expand the partition to fill the entire drive. Well, I assume acronis does this, Ghost does.

Is VNC safe over a LAN?

If you are just looking for internal desktop sharing, what about using NetMeeting? It's included in Windows still, just not advertised. Start>Run>Type CONF>press enter. You can even set it to automatically answer if you want on the client side.

i need to mess with my boss a little, i need an app

Cool trick here... 1. Take a screen shot with just his Desktop showing. 2. Make a new folder named "Temp" or whatever. Move all his shortcuts off the desktop into that temp folder. 3. Make the screenshot his wallpaper. Just move the shortcuts for programs, documents etc.

DHCP problem - not assigning IP

169.254 addresses are not valid IP addresses. Basically, it's assigning itself that address when it does not get one through a DHCP Server. Do you have another network cable you could try? Tried turning off/on your router?

How can I get Hotmail working in Outlook?

According to the Hotmail site, you have to have the Paid versions of Hotmail to get it to work with Outlook or Outlook Express. I assume Hotmail not working when IE7 was installed was a planned "feature".

Running two instances of the same program?

I'd say it just depends on the program. With a few MMO's i have run two instances of the games. You just install one using the defaults. Then, go through the install again, but specify a different folder for it. For instance; c:\program files\instance c:\program files\instance2 But...
