Question Unable to use SATA0/1 on Intel Z77 based board

I haven't looked at the manual for the old board yet, but I doubt it will address use of M2 slots / adapters since I don't think these even existed when it was made back in 2013/2014 I did find the following blurb in the manual for the new board I'm looking at, seems the limiation only exists...

I don't have any drives marked as RAID, the data drives were always JBOD / non-RAID drives and the two SATA SSDs that were in the RAID 1 were unassigned from the RAID and removed from the system prior to flipping the setting to AHCI. Like I said there should be no reason I would need to flip it...

Sorry if I was not clear, I am no longer using the RAID function I am only utilizing individual drives (JBOD) and pooling them with StableBit DrivePool

I seem to have corrected it, I did a couple things though and I'm not sure which did it... updated Realtek GBLan drivers and also ran the Intel Chipset driver update *shrug*

Allow me to clarify.... Under XP: Copy from Network Drive to internal drive = Fast Copy from internal drive to USB drive = Fast Copy from Network Drive to USB Drive directly = Very slow, more than the combined time of what it takes to copy files from the network to the internal drive...

Best motherboard to use for RAID array

I may have to go that route (add-on SATA controller) for my additional drives, seems like there aren't many options that have more than the 6 ICH ports *and* onboard video. Or I'll just bite the bullet and get one without onboard video. They tend to be Full ATX as well which have more room...

Thanks Larry, that makes sense. When I googled DSR3 the G33 version is the first one I've found. I realized later there are P35 boards with that suffix as well. The GA-EP45-UD3R does look like a good board, although I'd prefer to get one with onboard video since it will be in a headless server...

No, at least 6 on the ICH10R controller would be good though. Most of the boards in that link have the Pxx or Qxx chipsets which do not have onboard video, which may be my only choice. That last one the EVGA GeForce 9300 / nForce 730i board looks interesting, although I'm hesitant to go with...

why AHCI

I went through a lot of effort to enable AHCI on my wife's computer the last time I reloaded Windows XP (after SP3 was released) and she swore it was slow and unresponsive, and the hard drive was thrashing a lot. It is an Asus P5K-VM (Intel G33) mobo, with ICH9 - I needed to do some crazy stuff...

I rebuilt the domain and recreated all the user and computer accounts. It was a very small network so it really didn't take that long, so I couldn't justify spending more time or money trying to find a better solution. My first order of business Monday will be making sure every other network...

turns out the older version of NovaNet Web backup which is what we were using did not support System State backups, and when the latest client was installed no one ever bothered to go in and check system state :( think I'm gonna try UMove, will report back with my success.

we have a backup, im just not sure if it backed up the system state, gotta get a hold of it and check. So there isn't a way to get that from the files on C? I found a utility called Umove that says it can do it, there must be a way to do it manually though.

Cannot boot off SATA OS drive with SCSI card inserted?

I moved the card and drive over to my wife's PC which is an older i845 w/ no southbridge-controlled SATA (it has a Promise SATA Raid) and it works fine, so I'm gonna stick with that. I think sunase is right, Adaptec card would probably work but I'm not gonna bother as long as I can make it work...

There is an option 'Boot Other Device' which I tried turning off and it didn't make a difference.. I think the only thing this does is put 'Bootable Add-In Device' in the list of Hard Drive boot priority, but I tried setting Bootable Add-In Device to Onboard SATA RAID or PCI Card and it doesn't...

well, after trying everything I could think of for the last hour or two, I'm ready to give up. I'm convinced this is either a Chipset or BIOS bug (probably the latter) that is causing this board to just ignore the OnBoard SATA as a boot device when the SCSI card is inserted. There is no IRQ...

Tried another slot, it seemed to be using the same IRQ (11) which is not currently assigned to anything according to Windows device manager. I don't see any options for enabling/disabing the boot ability of the card in it's bios, perhaps because there aren't any bootable device connected it...
