hardware from zipzoomfly?

i buy stuff from there a lot. the only problem i had with them was once they shipped me a bad ide cable. i had extras lying around so it was no big deal though.

How do i check if DMA is enabled

device manager -> ide/ATA/Atapi controllers in the advance settings tab of whatever channel you're using if its not in DMA mode, then you can change it there as well.

Uber HOT PNY Geforce ti4200 64mg AGP (poss 128mg) 79$ at BBY (Dead)

if its 8x, it will say it everywhere. on the boot up screen it says 8x, in the display settings, device manager, etc.

picked up 2. one for me and one for my brother. didn't get the 128 mb version, both were 64 mb version. still, for 80 bucks each, it was a nice upgrade from our old geforce 2s. before this, we were both gaming on 2+ ghz processor with old ass geforce 2s. was horrible.

Why do I have slowdowns???

1.6 A has 512 kb l2 cache versus the old 256 kb. so its better about the slowdown. . . i dunno you can try overclocking. most people can get over 2.1 ghz with the 1.6A northwood or maybe add another 256 megs of ram.

So I am thinking about getting a new computer....

i think nvidia just announced an $80 dollar version of the FX. don't know when it will hit the street though. but you get a dx9 card if you can wait.

matrox sells stuff to businesses i believe. i'm not too keen on the graphic card's industry tho.

yea, i don't really think the guy who reviewed is a tech-head so some of his info is off, but he writes pretty words so its a pretty nice read. oh yea, firingsquad just put up a preview of the FX vs. ATI. thats also a nice read.

i dunno, i didn't do it manually. i downloaded this coolbits reg thing a while back that does it for me cause i'm too lazy to re-type all that stuff in the registry. worked for me. edit: i opened it up in notepad. all it is was this (without the pluses)...

Anyone using Windows 2000 SP3?

i run it. other than the udate thing (which i turned off) i have no problems with it. i can't really tell the difference between sp2 and sp3, but sp3 is the latest so i assume some stuff was fixed.

i've had ati, 3dfx, nvidia, nvidia. since i don't really game that much anymore, i'm gonna get an ati card for the other features it has. (of course i'll still be gaming occassionally)

well, on the 8mb vs 2mb thing, i would get 8mb. i mean, the majority of my files are over 2mb (alot is over 100mb). heck average size of mp3s are 3-5 mb. anyways, i do notice the speed increase since switching.
