Uh....yeah...I have owned Plextor, Lite-On, NEC, LG, and Samsung... otherwise, I wouldn't make the statement I did...
...and yes, I do prefer driving Ferrari...
Secondly...didn't I say "IN MY PERSONAL OPINION"... catch u next time...
Maybe there ARE better products out there than the iPod, but there are also better OSes out there, yet M$ currently has how much of the OS market share with Windows????????
IMHO, iTunes has the cleanest interface of any music manager and is very easy to use. The iPod isn't perfect, but for...
There are experts out there that wonder if the difference between SAS/SCSI/SATA is nothing more than an interface and a price...meaning if you took the drives apart you would find exactly the same internals....reliability-wise the enterprise SATA HDDs and the SCSI/SAS HDDs are almost the same...
The 716SA had a lot of problems...I have 2 of them and they give me trouble every now and then...try updating the firmware...1.10 is out now....
The 755A/SA is a much higher quality...seems Plextor has fixed alot of previous problems in this model...
Funny though...716SA does DAE about...
I have read the best rule to have is a 1 DVD/CD-ROM to 1 HDD ratio when ripping media...is there a particular reason for this? If using a RAID-5 setup (w/ dedicated controller), could multiple media be ripped at the same time?
You're wrong on the memory.... Corsair CM2X1024 6400C3 is considered one of the fastest memory modules out and it runs almost $500 at Newegg...over $500 at Monarch.
At least hold off until prices come down...I was just pricing sh!t now and my gawd! $500 for top of the line memory???????? I remember when DDR500 came out and it was a bit over $300...and people were SCREAMING about that price...
Don66,
I am in the same boat...I have a Opty 165 @ 2.8 (I can go over 3.0 but I have to start playing with voltages)...I was thinking about moving to Conroe...
On the other hand, Intel Quad-Core will be out the end of this year and AMD's native Quad-Core (K8L) should be out in less than a...
I have 5 WD 500GB RE2 HDDs in RAID-5. I haven't had a single failure. I did have a WD 400 GB RE2 HDD fail on me though...WD's RMA procedure is very very quick...
I highly recommend WD...
Which one of the steppings listed in the thread title should overclock the highest? I have both CPU steppings and one will be going into my workstation (which I want to overclock) and the other will go into my server (which I would overclock for now). Thanks!

Make you mad? I really don't care if you get angry or not...I am quite indifferent to your emotional state.
Back to your lesson:
Redundancy implies there is "excess" or "alternative means"...
Now where do you find redundancy in striping? Where do you find "alternative means" in...
Then you should unplug your keyboard.
RAID stands for Redundant Array of Inexpensive (or Independent) Disks.
Where does REDUNDANT come into the picture with "RAID 0"? The number zero actually means "RAID none, zero, zilch"... therefore it is not a RAID solution no matter how many...
You flat-out do NOT know what you are talking about. Using this tape backup as an example, it will take 3 hours to backup 40GB of data...and I have 900+GB of data to backup...22 tapes times 3 hours = 66 hours.
Now seeing tha I only have time to touch my computer for about 4 hours a day...
Are you saying the 1.5TB RAID-5 file server housing my DVD ISO images is not a "good candidate for the protective benefits of RAID"? You want to give me a better solution?
Software RAID-5 does NOT use alot of CPU power...I have done software RAID-5 and watched the CPU utilization and it never got above 10% (usually around 5%).
Hub/Switch...not networking....USB hub.... HUH????????????????
OP was asking for a hub/switch. I pointed him to the Networking forum where his question would best be answered.
You want a USB hub? Do you need a linky too for your hardware requirements? OK... Here you go.
Cough, cough, choke, choke....yeah...if you want to spend $1000 a drive...
Unless you are running enterprise servers, large 15K SCSI/SAS HDDs are a complete and total waste of money. Smaller 36/73GB SCSI/SAS HDDs are the way to go for the OS.
By going with SAS, you can use a smaller 15K...
I want to rip my games into ISO images to my HDD and use them with a virtual CD-ROM program. 1. Is it possible? 2. If so, what is the best program to do this?
Note: This is not for any illegal use. I just want to be able to run all my games from the HDD.
512MB to 1GB or
1GB to 2GB or
512MB to 2GB...it doesn't matter...
As more RAM is installed the performance factor generally goes up.*
I noticed a HUGE difference going from 1GB to 2GB, but others may not have the same experience...
*On most destop PCs, after 2GB RAM, the performance...
For all those that said it was crazy to have a 500+ watt PSU...I give you this:
http://www.anandtech.com/tradeshows/showdoc.aspx?i=2770
300 big ones...for the graphics card alone...:Q
I for one like to keep my "overkill"-watt PSU for a few years...I call it an investment...
Anybody...
