SiS 655 A0 or B0 - how do you tell the difference?

Thanks for checking this out Radelon. Can you tell me which board(s) you tested? And if you've got a B0, where did you manage to get it - cause that store probably has gotten a batch of B0 boards. Anyone else had any success with CPU-Z? Ken.

Thanks for the info Evan. Just noticed ArborBarber's post in this thread, saying that the software utility CPU-Z may be able to determine the version of the SiS 655 chipset -- apparently it reports "version 0" for A0 and "version 10" for B0. I'd really appreciate it if anyone who has a Sis 655...

Thanks for the info Technonut. Pity this seems to be the only way to tell. I found a retailer who has the Gigabyte boards in stock and actually offered to check whether they were A0 or B0 stepping, if I could tell him how. Unfortunately I don't think he'll be prepared to scrape off the thermal...

Technonut, When you popped the HSF on the Northbridge, was there thermal goo(TM) underneath? Did you have to scrape it off, or were you able to read the chip markings straight away? Ken.

There are already lots of threads on the SiS 655 boards, but I'm starting a new one because this seems to be a frequently asked question, and I have seen very few possible answers. Hopefully Evan, or anyone else who has been lucky enough to get hold of one of these boards may be able to provide...

My Gigabyte 8INXP arrived today!!

Anybody think the GB chipset is going to be an overclocking bottleneck? Since its only rated for DDR266 and locked to a 1:1 ratio, I wonder will it be the limiting factor, as opposed to processor or RAM? Looking at Elvis2's preliminary results, and those given in the anandtech review, 155MHz...

Thanks Rick. Thats a bit reassuring. I'm just afraid Newegg might have a few of the old version boards to get rid of, and they might ship them at random instead of the new ones. Normally it'd be ok and you could RMA it, but if I have to do that, It'll miss its flight to Ireland :)

Hi Does anybody know if the GA-8IHXP2 that NewEgg are selling definitely is the new version with Realtek 6-channel audio (as opposed to the older version with Creative CT5880)? Has anyone got it from NewEgg? I want to get this board, but I need the ALC650 6-channel audio since I'm not getting...
