Traveling to Brazil and Argentina and Money

Brazil is pretty good about taking credit cards and there are plentiful ATMs. It's been awhile since I've been to Argentina, but I remember credit card acceptance being pretty good. ATMs were a pain in the ass, though. There was a daily withdrawal limit and I recall only being able to use...

    Napa Valley/San Francisco Vacation

Try looking for flights from ZFV (United sells an amtrak ticket from PHL-EWR connecting to flights from EWR), which can often be cheaper than departing PHL. If you can drive to EWR, that also opens up some options. Lastly, you can look at flights to SMF, which is just >1hr from Napa. Some combo...

Update inside: Is economy in A380 better than business class in an older plane?

The SA flights in business class are nice, but that stop in Dakar sucks. They wake you up half way through the fly (middle of the night, everyone is sleeping), spray you with bug spray because they open the cabin doors and mosquitoes come in, turn on all the lights, and check your passport. I...

Frequent Travelers - Using Points Question

You should have enough miles for 2 business elite tickets at the saver level (85k/pp). Delta award search is notoriously bad at find availability / pricing awards. Try searching for partner availability on Alaska or Hawaiian or try calling and working through your itinerary with an agent.

    Manning to Denver

Superbowl victories probably aren't the best measure of conference strength. If you look at aggregate interconference records by year, 2011 was the first year that the NFC won outright since 1995. Since 2000, the AFC leads the NFC 383-311...

    Critique My RESUME!

Objectives aren't really necessary. You can mention an objective in a cover letter, if applicable. I would drop Safeway as its 5-6 years old now and doesn't seem applicable to what you're looking for. Similarly, cut down the 8 bullet points from Target. Your Navy experience (most recent) and...

    Tax Question about COBRA Reimbursement

In the case of an employee paying the premium and seeking reimbursement, would this be similar to any other ordinary expense (e.g. travel), where he is issued a separate expense payment which is not subject to taxation or included in W2 wages?

    Tax Question about COBRA Reimbursement

I have a question about the tax implications of a new employer (who doesn't yet offer health insurance) paying COBRA insurance premiums for someone to maintain his old employer's insurance benefits until a plan is established. Some internet research seems to indicate that this arrangement...

In both instances a running back went low, but the rusher was not engaged. For it to be an illegal block, the defender has to be engaged already.

    Vacation in Peru?

Considering most crappy airport hotels are in the $100 range in the states, I'd say its fair for a much nicer hotel, downtown in a major city. As far as the food goes, 3 courses for 2 ppl with a bottle of wine for around 75 bucks at one of the nicest restaurants in town- you can do that much...

    Vacation in Peru?

I went a few years ago in September and the weather was pretty mild and it was during the dry season (although it got cold at night in Cuzco). It was also the shoulder season so it was a little bit cheaper and less crowded. I never felt unsafe anywhere in Lima or Cuzco and I walked around a...

    A380 - 0 Building - 1

No commercial jets (save a few older 146s) have geared turbofan engines. The PW1000 will be the first major commercial engine program to to employ a gearbox decoupling the fan and LPT, and will power the A320neo and Bombardier CSeries (and the MRJ and MS21). The gearbox you referenced on the...

    Movie "The American" question (spoilers)

I don't think the gun was built to kill Clooney. The old man had been trying to kill Clooney since the beginning (in Sweden) and when that failed, he tried to send Clooney to some little Italian town with a cell phone so he could kill him there. When Clooney bailed on that town and headed...

If changing flight dates is a possibility, is it cheaper to buy refundable tickets?

Get the refundable. If you end up changing the day before the flight, it's likely the only fare classes left will be refundable (B or Y) and you'll have to eat the change fee as well. If you are set on the outbound flight, buy that one-way non-refundable and get the return flight as B fare

Easy $: Buy before dividend payout, sell after payout. Rinse/repeat

I would be terribly unhappy, but I wouldn't exactly be living in a mudhut in some war-torn village the next day either. And those countries still didn't cancel their currencies or a 20:1 issuance on a new currency.

Easy $: Buy before dividend payout, sell after payout. Rinse/repeat

Neither Argentina nor Russia cancelled their currency nor exchanged it for new currency at a 5% redemption as you said in your first post. A 2/3s devaluation is a certainly a pretty harsh reset on the standard of living, but its not the apocalypse you implied it was.

The pyramids are still pretty cool and it's not like the pizza hut is in one of the tombs. Its across the street and a decent bit away. If you have BofA, look for Deutsche Bank or Barclay's ATMs. You'll pay the spot rate plus about a 1% exchange fee. ATMs are the easiest and best way to get money. Schwab and capital one have no forex fee credit cards, most others will charge 2-3% on top of the spot rate. I only spent a few...

Will this security nonsense destroy the commercial air passenger industry?

I took 4 flights this week and didn't really notice a difference. I got pulled aside for a quick pat-down on one-flight, but everything else was pretty standard. I waited 10-15 minutes at security each time.

Argument with friend: Passenger airplanes haven't progressed much in 40 years?

You are ignoring the vast improvements in operating costs. 2 man cabin crews instead of 3, the new 787 composite airframe will drastically reduce maintenance costs as compared to metal allow, as will the transition from 4 engines to 2 engines on all but the very largest of widebody aircraft.

    NFL October 25-26th games thread.

Correct. The in/out-of-conference divisions rotate on a 4 year cycle, with home/away swapping each time. Each team already knows who 14 of its 16 opponents will be next year and whether those games will be home/away. This is why it makes no sense when fans bitch about their team getting shafted...
