For those in Grad School

If a graduate program wants you, then they give you money. If they don't, they don't really want you. You don't apply for anything extra. For my PhD studies at Caltech, I have my tuition waived, health insurance paid, and a $25k/yr living stipend (a fellowship, so no teaching requirements)...

What college do you go to?

Rice University, applied mathematics (BA May 2006). Currently, it's a tossup between Caltech, UCLA and Columbia for grad school in math or applied math. They're all flying me out to visit, so I'll decide then. Also, a lot of schools differ in GPA scales, so it might not really help for...

I hope so. Why not? They generally pay you to attend, so it's like a job where you can think and smoke pot all day--and get paid.

Yes. I have been taking graduate classes since junior year. All you have to is sign up for him and have your academic advisor approve.

Graduate School!

I'm going in the fall (from the offers thus far, probably Caltech, but still waiting) for a PhD in mathematics / applied mathematics. My GPA isn't on a 4.0 scale (you get 4.33 for an A+), but it's around 4.11, though will drop by graduation since I smoke entirely way too much pot.

By Takehome (like takehome.com)? You know, the one you can rent on video (like at Blockbuster)? I have the DVDs here to watch -- are the exam questions specific to the video, or can I just skim through the video and take the exam and get away with it? I mean, 6-8 hours is a long, long time.

What's with commercials using celebrity look-alikes?

That T-Mobil one (or whatever the cell phone one is, where they have to rent out a room), the dude coming out of the bathroom bears an uncanny resemblance to the late Chris Farley (demeanor). And the Washington Mutual guy must be Kevin Spacey's long-lost...something.

What marks go on your college transcript if you add/drop a major?

I would assume the only thing that would be printed on your transcript is if you withdrew from any courses. The "major" part of a transcript is variable, and they need not log all yuor major changes. Why would it hurt, anyway? Unless you did poorly in some courses that could somehow indicate a...

I thought Stanford was more like 15, HP around 11%. Anyway, I got into Stanford when I applied a couple of years ago -- but I chose Rice, 'cause it's better for undergrad, :P....and cheaper.

Sizing Survey Finds Americans Getting Larger

That's what an Adult/Men Small t-shirt is, and that's what I wear, so that's what I assume it is. But I do wear fairly tight shirts, so it's probably more like 34/35. Hell, I know nothing of chest size.
