there is power consumption differences though, ATA ~5V vs SATA ~250mV thats where the SATA drive has the advantage

SATA II HDD's are out!!

There's different phases to SATA II, phase one is NCQ and some other stuff, phase two is to reach 300, etc. So they arent totally wrong on labeling it as SATA II, since it does have NCQ.

NEC 3500A Media Compatability

i have the nec3500a. writes to 8x fujifilm media at 16x with ease. only gripe is that when writing fujifilm 48x cdrs, it runs at 32x, imation cdrs are the same. i bought this drive over others because of the 48x cdr, but im still very happy with it AT did a dvdr roundup. supposedly they used...

Dual 12V rails

If I had a power supply with dual 12V rails each having a max current of 15A and I needed to draw 25A, for example, off the 12V, will the power supply be able to handle this? Does one rail help the other to provide enough amps? How do the amps add up? Is it 30A total off the dual 12V rails in...

when u get the i/o error does that mean the floppy is functioning correctly, is it reading off the flopppy disk? If so then might be a bad floppy disk causing the problem

Power cable plugged in correctly or at all on the floppy? Try using a different floppy cable. It sounds like you're doing everything right, I don't know what else could be the problem, since you reversed the cable and everything and tried other floppy drives. But I hope you get your issue...

Nforce4: some thoughts (and some AT criticism)

how did you get a "Y" when reaching for the "L", they're not even close :P as for the nforce4, there will always be someone with enough money to buy the best stuff even in twofold i.e. graphics cards. I like what they've done with the new chipset, itll probably be in my next rig.

How do the Antec Sonata and SLK1650B compare?

Since you dont want a door buy the SLK1650B, a lot of ppl are pleased with it. Since it has a 120mm fan like the sonata I'm sure it is quiet. I have the Sonata myself. Just make sure the power supply is enough for your components. SLK has 350 versus the Sonata with a 380W

Need help with no-boot computer

The jumper should be labelled with "CMOS" or something written on the silkscreen of the board. If not you can always look it up in your motherboard manual. The battery is the round flat silver object usually placed parallel to the board, take that out and your bios will be cleared.

Hard drive led work with Sata drive?

SATA doesnt have a special signal pin that designates activity LED like IDE does. The activity LED is handled by the SATA controller, versus IDE where it is handled by the drive itself. Like Algere said you have to connect the LED to the controller if it offers it. Some controllers don't...

Looking for a new HDD, something quiet.

i recommend seagate for quiet/reliable. there 5 year warranty cant be beat. hitachi also has some quiet drives but their warranties are shorter.

id go with the same, although i dont know too much about the swiftech one. i have a zalman, easy to install and quiet in operation. it replaced my stock intel hsf and my temps went down. i believe the thermalright requires removing the motherboard to install.

I think that's what he meant. I'd say go with 3. too. If you want a board now do what epsilon9090 said and get s754 with cheap mobo. But if you can wait, then wait for PCIe and nforce4 chipset.
