I do not get an error regarding my email address, nor does it appear in the "banned" list. I was trying to change my rocketmail.com address to my new gmail.com address.
Ok - I got it.
Here was my issue. I was turning on Basic Authentication (so in my mind that meant turning off Anonymous) and that is why I received no email.
Once I got past that mistake, there was an issue because the server is not actually on a domain (just a workgroup, it?s a home...
Ok. So I guess my confusion lies in the Authentication window.
If I do not have anonymous checked, I can NOT receive any email at all.
But If I do check it, and then check that box to allow only authenticated users to relay... does that mean that anonymous users can relay through as well...
If I require incoming SMTP authentication then no can deliver mail to the domain.
Which leaves my question. How to I only allow known clients to send outbound?
I have both services installed.
But I can't figure out how to allow external clients to connect, and send their email through the server, while not allowing anyone else (spammers).
The problem lies in the fact that the clients are not on a fixed ip/domain, so I can't limit it via that...
Problems:
1) In XP clients the network neighborhood doesnt appear until you manually type a computer name such as \\compurex\ and then wait about a minute, This is not the behaviour in 2K (so I'm told) in which it will appear automatically
2) A user with another 2003 box gets disconnected...
I've been reconfiguring the DHCP server (a w2K server box) as well as the 2003 RAS/VPN box to eliminate some random issues with some users.
I tested the connection this morning and that is what I saw - while I didn't have any problems, it still seems like something that isn't right and should...
When I connected to the server this morning I did an ipconfig /all at the command line and I got these settings for the vpn connection:
DNS
192.168.100.50
192.168.100.31
192.168.100.50
192.168.100.31
Primary WINS
192.168.100.50
Secondary WINS
192.168.100.31
192.168.100.50
192.168.100.31...
Well - I still have the same "error" as last friday, I see no DNS issues on any of the error logs, but I would like to get this one fixed before I continue on.
Any ideas out there?
Thanks!

netdiag and dcdiag pass every test they run (defaults skip a couple) on BOTH windows 2003 Enterprise DC's.
dnslint /ad /s 192.168.100.xxx
gives me a report, with the error posted about 3 posts up, on the primary DC - I have not run it on the other DC.

well - something new now.
I found some dns entries for the previous DC I got rid of yesterday afternoon, one of which was a CNAME for the domain, so I deleted all of them, and rebooted the primary DC.
Ran dnslint with the same command and this time I got a report with some info that I can use...
no.
-------------------------------
2 DNS (secondary & Primary) run on Windows 2000 Server
2 DC's are the new 2003 boxes.
-------------------------------
Once DNS is working 100% I will be moving the DNS over to my 2 DC's however.
The error in the System event log is as follows (exact same error on the other DC for itself and the VPN clients, just different IP's):
The additional data section is what is throwing me off. and all machines have DHCP service as started with Automatic setting.
ok:
dcdiag /v - everything passed
netdiag /v - a couple of things showed up:
--------------------------------------------------
NetBT name test. . . . . . : Passed
[WARNING] At least one of the <00> 'WorkStation Service', <03> 'Messenger Service', <20> 'WINS' names is missing...
WINS is for the NT boxes we have in house to do some dev on for some agencies that still have it.
I see errors from the DNSLint failing, almost like an execution or memory bug, cant recall the exact error right now.
-------------------------
even though the guy who wrote it sits a little ways away from me O_o wow, small world
Well, every time I run it this way I get an error in the event log, and when I reboot the machine I get a pop up asking to send a report to MS for every time it "crashed" so if this...
I have to use the "/v" switch because otherwise when I run the command nothing happens, no report.
IF I run the other command dnslint /d rfdinc I get a report that says everything is aok. But not this way, hence my concern.
