Oki, I managed to compile the driver and install the module. It even seems to work. At least to some extent (pinging the same segment), but I still have some problems with my network settings in general I think.
Asus does provide linux drivers for broadcom 4401. You can find them at ftp://ftp.asus.com.tw/pub/ASUS/lan/broadcom/4401/4401_652.zip. However they only contain the sources and are tested upto kernel 2.14.18. The documentation says that the rpm version is also available, but I couldn't find it...
