yes, then I'd have duplicate entries for certain items. Both the pst files have got a fair amout of the same information.

I've got two .pst files. They're both pretty much exactly the same except the second pst file has some extra stuff that's not in the first one. Anyone got any ideas on merging .pst files together into one single pst file?

Does anyone know of software that can make a laptop inaccessible after a particular date?

when you lend out the laptops, supply a hammer with it. Bind the borrower to a contract that specifies him to hammer the laptop after x many days. Problem solved? See, there's a simple solution to everything. Simplicity is beauty.

Thumbnails: Generate and upload them, or generate on the fly?

Umm....I guess it depends on a whole load of factors, some of which are: a) How much space have you got on the server? Would it be sufficient to service the number of files (plus their thumbnails) you expect on the site? b) How frequently would you expect browsing of the images by the user...

ok, i haven't used knoppix before....but the application I use on my linux to get it talking to windows via the network neighbourhood thing is Samba.

Why does my Laptop keep turning on by itself?

Dell vs. IBM which should i choose and why?

Noooo waaayyyyyy....I've got an IBM T40 with the standard battery (whatever it is that came in the box) and i've gone to 7 hrs straight with it (though I did reduce the screen brightness to lowest). And I still had battery remaining after 7 hours....! And I know few people who own the 600m...

microsoft java vm is supposed to be full of security holes....though I wouldn't know....i've never used it. Java VM is backward compatible as far as I know. It's prolly not the Java VM fault.....have you got Java enabled on your browser?

PDFs

I'm just wondering if pdf's are proprietery formats of Adobe. I've only ever used Adobe products to deal with pdf's but I am aware that there are some software out there that'll create pdf's, etc....so yea, just curious.

i've a funny feeling ur dns thing is not set up right.... try opening a DOS console and type: ping www.yahoo.com then try typing: ping 216.109.118.78 post ur results

Oh and another thing. I read that with PocketPC, if they say 64MB Ram, only 32MB is really available to you. Is RAM availability really an issue with PDAs? I mean, do would you really use up 32MB Ram?

IE6 problem - HELP PLEASE!!!

hmm...have u set the gateway on the machine to the address of the router?? try pinging the router and other computers on the network. If that works, then nothing wrong with the internal network try pinging an outside ip address eg. www.yahoo.com, if that works then internet connection is also...

Hmm.... "stability and speed" of the Mac Well, controversial subject, but I'd like to add my 2 cents. I'm not paid by Microsoft to say this, but I don't see why a PC Laptop running Windows XP should be inferior in terms of stability and speed. It's probably less secure, but I find XP fairly...

From my research, that is wat i gathered.... But I'm still not sure if Win 2003 is more or equally as powerful as Palm OS. I'm imagining it to eat up quite a lot of memory and run tremendously slow. Of course, never seen one in action, so can't really verify that.

again....a design thing....you always make vars that never change constant... In the rectangle example, well whether width and height would change would depend very much on your use of the rectangle. Maybe, we'd like to instantiate the rectangle with a fixed width and height and never change...

Trying to create a simple batch file

errm....I don't do too much of scripting but isn't the point of scripting is to execute a piece of lightweight code "in order"?? Hence, making it multithreaded sotta makes it more of a programming language than a scripting language?? I'm just throwing my 2 cents in....

Errm....wouldn't that depend on the language you're dealing with? All the languages I've dealt with would insist on constants to be given a value upon declaration. So I don't think you can change the value of a constant in the constructor (I must admit, this is something I haven't tried doing)...

How do I scan to .pdf?

You need Adobe Acrobat (= highly expensive piece of software). It's able to convert most documents (including word docs) to pdf. It should be able to do jpg's as well. Anyway, there's an open source project that creates pdf files as well - PDFCreator. I haven't used it but it sounds good to me.

Windows Batch File

I'm trying to create a batch file....with a simple copy command, but I'm getting syntax error at the copy command. I've looked through google, etc, but can't seem to find anything wrong with it....might be something trivial that I missed...it's something like: COPY FileA ../Dir1/FileA
