Should I switch cellular providers and, if so, to who?

I'm on Sprint's SERO plan. Read the first page of this thread. Essentially you're looking at 500 minutes, unlimited PowerVision (i.e. unlimited data), for $30 a month plus taxes. And if you have some time on your hands you can haggle with Sprint's customer service reps during the 30 day...

Just got a callback for an interview

How do I rip portions (clips) of a DVD?

If the DVD is encrypted the concept of FU doesn't apply. Thank your representatives, and the DMCA, for that. I would rip the DVD then use Gordian Knot to strip out the section(s) I want.

Upgrade advice

Maybe. Aspire makes crappy PS's. The 15A are barely cutting it. I'd keep another $50 in reserve just in case. Fortron makes PS's in the 400-450 watt range that would be more than enough. You'll never notice the difference between the two in games, or in anything for that matter. SP2...

2GB(2x1GB) set that'll reach 300MHz?

Just use the dividers, unless you need the 300mhz RAM for an ego boost or something :P Low(ish) latency 1GB sticks will do just as well as faster RAM with crappy timings, at least, well enough that you'd never notice the difference playing video games.

Impossible to say which will clock better. The X2 has a 10 multi, which makes it more attractive to me than the Optys extra cache.

Troubleshooting: Testing powersupply

Its normal for vcore to fluctuate. You can run a program like OCCT to see how the vcore behaves under load; OCCT uses MBM or Speedfan to creat a graph of the reported voltages over the length of the test. If the board is undervolting your CPU then logic says to simply raise the vcore, nright...

Who says Corsair VS can't overclock?

For a while there Corsair was sending UCCC chips back with RMA'd VS. The UCCC was impressive, but on my A64 system the timings pretty much negated any performance the increased memory speed gave so I sold em all ;)

OK, latest build idea...Give me a grade A+ to F

Evidence? Gamer, the 7800 and 2GB are a good step towards 'future proofing' the rig. Now ditch the 400w power supply for a Antec 550w or the like and get the DFI Ultra-D instead of the Epox. Do it right now and you won't have to upgrade every 6 months :P

Should a tower fan blow in our blow out?

Sure it matters...one setup will blow air into the case, the other out. Try it both ways and see which one results in lower temps.

I have this RAM and mobo, want to add another gig.. what will work best?

Sell it an buy 2x1GB sticks. 4 sticks will require relaxed memory timings and can be a headache when trying to get different pairs to run.

A CPU is a tool. I pick the tool based on the job. In terms of CPU's, that might be Intel, that might be AMD. I don't give 2 'shoots' what others use and frankly I'm not entirely sure why you do, unless you're a moron or a troll. I'll let you pick :D

Major errors on new build

Sure, you can update it using a boot floppy or CD. If you point your browser to Asus' website they'll give you detailed instructions on how to flash using a floppy. The problem you describe could be anything from a bad XP disk to a bad hardware. My first action would be to dowload Memtest86...

Hmmm...the bootscreen is an unwelcome variable; who knows what kind of chaos it may be causing. Boot from your XP disk and repair your installation. There are plenty of guides if you do a Google. Properly done, a repair will not erase any imortant data you have save.

cpu overclock and memory divider question!

What do you mean? Either its stable or it isnt. Download Stress Prime 2004 and install it into two separate folders. Then run dual instances of Prime 95, one for each CPU. The AN8 boards are notorious for not liking 1T timings at 200+ MHZ HTT, so don't be too let down if you have to run 2T...

I'd go with a X2 3800, as they have a lot of overclocking potential, and there's really no empirical evidence to suggest that the Optys overclock better than the X2s.

Fue overclocking questions...

Why? Running a divider doesn't necessarily hurt performance. In fact, running a divider and using tighter timings can result in INCREASED performance over running the RAM faster, but with looser timings. Its pointless to try and just plug random numbers, INCLUDING other people's settings...

Well, more important than the minor increase in speed (which you'll never feel, whether the difference is $3 or $30) is the higher multiplier. 10x250/260/270 is going to make it easier to run 1:1 on the RAM and still achieve a high clock speed. Of course, running a divider isn't going to make...

Doesn't 3DMark come with a feature that allows one to compare his/her score with similar systems? Wouldn't that be more useful than asking for a subjective opinion on your score by a buch of random forum members?

Thinking about buying new computer

DFI requires a PS that is 480 watts and has at least 25+ amps on the 12 volt. You guys would spend $1100 on a system and be a cheapskate with the PS? C'mon... The Opteron should do anywhere from 2400 -> 2700 mhz, and yes, don't be surprised if it tops out at 2400 mhz, that's just the way...
