I just bought an HIS 2600 Pro 512MB for $104.99 AR, and it comes with the DVI to HDMI dongle, no playback software. It's in my HTPC, and it's adequately quiet.
I just put together an HTPC with a Celeron D 360, and with the stock cooler, at idle, it doesn't even get above human body temperature. Simply amazing. 23C (73.4F).
Yeah, I had issues with this on my NAS. I would need to remove the folder from the library, then re-add it. It would be fine for a while.
I ended up buying a Ximeta NDAS, and since this effectively works like just another hard drive on your system, I haven't had any issues (yet).

There is no single best solution right now. Tom Tom's pretty cool. It's got big buttons for keys, and a smooth scrolling 3D view. Routing seems to be top notch also. It's got a cool detour feature where you can say to avoid the next mile or so of your current route. iGuidance only lets you...
Words of wisdom right here. Don't forget that you're in school to study. Do your partying AFTER you graduate. You'll be making more money sooner. Every year you get delayed graduating costs you AT LEAST what your starting salary would have been ($30-40K).
The scaling is very good. I bet you won't even notice it too much. I play Rome Total War on mine, and the max resolution on that's only 1024x768 I think.
I've had mine for about 5-6 years now. Doesn't seem to be dying down to me. My wife and I have been using it for about 3 years now too, and all we ever need to buy are the brush heads every 6 months.
