Thugs, PJ and Oldfart.....I agree with what you are saying about the temp and voltage issues. I realize that it could be
just that the board or monitoring software may just be reporting erroneous info. It's kinda confusing though when you
are trying to get everything set up to work properly...
Jiffy, I had 1.55v set in the bios. I raised it in the bios to 1.575v and MBM reports 1.52v with no load....this board does seem to undervolt quite a bit. It's not even overclocked.
Edit: don't even get me started on the temp issues with this thing!
I've got the same thing happening on my IS7....the vcore voltage seems to drop when running prime95 When I set the
the voltage at 1.55 MBM reports 1.48v when running prime95.
Where did you find cpu-z 118c? I have version 118 and no where does it indicate performance mode. After seeing some screens showing this setting.... my cpu-z only shows that ECC is disabled.
About the memory timings and using fast mode or turbo...has anyone tried any of the PC3700 modules? I wonder if this board is way ahead of the currently available ram or is it just a bios revision thats needed?
I think I may have solved my problem.....I guess it was a hardware problem. I had to change some of the bios settings that probably didn't work too well with XP. I was able to play MOHAA for about 2hrs and no lockups or mouse problems. My motherboard is a Gigabyte GA-8SG667 that has a top...
OT What?
When did Sharky get bought out?....I noticed a while ago that that site wasn't really posting very much new info and I quit checking out as often as I used to. I used to enjoy that site alot!
Dunkster, thanks for your reply, I have shut down alot of processes and have configured a hardware profile with minimal processes running.....Check out the link on my initial post it seems to be a pretty good site for xp tweaking.
Daz, I'm using an Intellimouse explorer and I have my suspicions...
Daz, usually what happens is the mouse stops working first. At that point I can still move using the keyboard and carry out actions that are defined by the keyboard. All the mouse functions however just stop functioning. This is common to all the games I mentioned earlier, however MOHAA will...
When there are no games running my cpu use is minimal 0-2%. When the games crash I do hit cntrl-alt-del and the cpu usage does show 100%. At that point the mouse no longer works. I have tried to use keyboard commands to shut down the process (game), but when the process is picked this way and I...
Mike, thanks for your reply. The process using up all the cpu is the game that I'm trying to run.... it shows 99%. What is so unusual about this is that almost all of my games do this... whereas in 98se I never had that problem. I found something similar to this problem on an xp tweak site but...
The problem with java is mainly with the newest sevice pack.....SP1a If you use that service pack there will be no java installed. I have an OEM disk with SP1 and have had no problems with java...so if you do another reinstall in the near future you may want to try to install SP1 instead of SP1a
I have Windows Xp Sp1 installed and am new to using it. I have been experiencing a lockup on several games that used to work fine in Windows98SE. When I bring up the Task Manager, the CPU usage shows 100%. Is this normal or are there some settings that I'm missing when I set up XP? I have...
Thanks for the reply Lord Evermore. Disconnecting the nic is required to install the drivers for my sound card according to the directions on the Hercules website for the FortissimoIII. Also it was required when using Driver Cleaner to remove the ATI drivers for my video card. I did look at the...
I am using WinXp Sp1 and have needed to disconnect my network connection to my cable modem in order to install some drivers for my graphics and sound card. When I reboot without the nic being connected to the modem I get a message that windows has "recovered from a serious error". Is this...
I'm not familiar with the nforce boards, but which nvidia dirvers get installed when you re-install windows?...do you think its possible that even though you don't have built in graphics your chipset drivers might be installing a vga driver that is interferring with the catalyst installation...
I was interested in this board also, although i'm not much of an overclocker, I'd still like to have the option if the OC bug ever bites me....The review on the MSI FIS2R was intersting....it actually bested the Intel in almost all the benchmarks that they ran
Just a thought.....do you think that the voltage being reported in the bios may be wrong? Perhaps this board is not sending 2.5v even though thats whats being reported in the bios.
Is anyone considering the Intel version of this board? Are there likely to be any OC options in the bios? ( I know thats not usually customary with Intel boards). Also is the Intel board 6 layer or 4 layer pcb?
I have a P2b-f with a superslocket and a pIII850. I bought mine at Spartan Technologies but after checking......they dont appear to have any listed. I did find this one thoughSlocketIII It doesn't work with tulatin tho...hope this helps
You might be right about that wetcat, but at the launch event they said that the 9800pro 256mb version would be released in April... Does anyone else have any infromation about that?
Sorry to ask a few dumb questions... I've done some mild overclocking in the past just as a learning exercise mainly and I am far from being an expert at it but here goes..... The anti overclocking they are talking about does it apply to the processors or the chipset or both? Also does Intel...
Nacho does the 440BX support a 4x agp card or only 2x? I've got an asus p2b-f which is a 440bx chipset and it only supports 2x agp. You should check to see if the 9700 will even work in your board if it is only a 2x agp slot....you might be making an expensive mistake!
Strange that you should have that problem with ut and a radeon 9500........My old rig plays ut smooth as silk with high rez....1280x1024 highest details in both d3d and ogl. My old rig is a PIII850 on a asus p2b-f (440bx) mobo thru a superslocket with 256mb pc100 and pc133 sdram. It had a radeon...
In the Rage3d Tweaker double click on open gl and look at # of Samples this is where you can ajust the anti-aliasing....also look at the FSAA mode to check whether settings are for performance or quality. The same applies to Direct3D.
I'm really not an expert at this but you may want to check out other manufacturers such as Corsair. Their XMS line of memory is touted to be very good and fast as well. I've bought ram from crucial also and in that situation I needed to be sure that the ram I ordered worked in my system. To make...
I have a Radeon 8500le and it does not have a dvi connector. So if you are planning on using a dual monitor set up I wouldn't recommend this card. There is a S video connector that can be used for a television that can be used in conjuction with your monitor.
Thanks, thats exactly what I needed to know.....I'm not interested in saving any of the data on the drives so thanks also for the info about deleting the partition with XP before repartioning using DOS.....thanks again!!!
I'm planning on upgrading to Windows XP and want to use the NTFS system for my drives....however I will be upgrading to SATA drives later and want to transfer my existing drives to another machine using Windows 98SE. Can the drives be reformatted or repartitioned to revert back to FAT32?
I have an Asus P2b-f which is a 440 bx slot1 motherboard. I was able to upgrade my system using a superslocket adapter. I have seen these on pricewatch for $5-$10. I used a PIII850 fcpga with this system (100mhz fsb) everything worked fine..... I upgraded the memory with 2 sticks of 256 mb pc133...
