‘Duck Dynasty’ ratings tumble to lowest numbers since 2012

The show is unwatchable. I say that honestly having seen 1-2 episodes and yet being the kind of person who has watched entire seasons of Gold Rush and Amish Mafia, which is to say I am capable of watching some real shit on TV, but duck dynasty is just garbage.

It's ok to not tolerate negative opinions. You are still welcome to your negative opinions, but they wont be tolerated.

And I think a lot of those shows are losing interest with the general public. The blatant fake staged crap in these shows turns my stomach. Take Storage Wars for instance. The first season lockers sold for around $300 and had an occasional rare item. Eww, they were on to something. Now they sell for 10X that and every other one has a rare item that has to be appraised by an expert and is usually $10,000. Another one is Corey wanting to leave Pawn Stars. You have to be an idiot to think another pawn store is going to pay him more than what History Channel pays him.

I was hoping that were the case a decade ago. Here we are in 2014 and fake-reality shows are still popular.

Its not that at all.

Phil said something that upset a certain demographic. Rather than telling that demographic to suck it up and get over it, A&E tried to appease that group.

What should have happened is nothing. TV networks should not have a roll in promoting a certain agenda, but that is not the way it works.

They are nothing more than a bunch of preppy Americans, who wear the "redneck" image for the purposes of cashing in. They aren't real rednecks - they just pretend to be.

I'm more redneck that the people on Duck Dynasty,.. and I grew up in NYC!

I think the comments were made, just to cause a stir. A pure marketing ploy, like their "lives". It back fired and they instead got a ratings drop.

Except the funny part is the show has moved away from that quite a bit. Sure, it has always been fake, but now it is annoyingly fake. The first seasons had them hunting regularly and quite a bit of shooting. Now? Goofing around the warehouse and silly family scenarios.

The show jumped the shark. The article says the ratings were already in decline before Phil's comments. My guess about his comments? The show's attempt to grab ratings on the angry white Christian demographic.

I think its that despite making nice with the Duck Dynasty crew alot of people thumbed their nose at A&E. I used to casually watch Duck Dynasty, thought their beards were weird, but I tend to just skip over A&E lately. All that controversy. I'm like... no...

Eh, as someone who grew up around many actual rednecks (who do watch this show nowadays), all I can give for this show is a perfunctory shrug. The show is "okay" for something on basic cable and honestly I'm suprised that it has held on so long. It....isn't that great as far as television goes. People are trying all too transparently to use this one inconsequential show to demonstrate a fault line in the ongoing culture wars. So, :shrug: whatever.
