‘He will die in jail’: Intelligence community ready to ‘go nuclear’ on Trump, senior source says

Interesting read. I just don't see any of this ending well for Trump. And the article/headline seems a bit melodramatic for my tastes. There's too many cards stacking against him and he's alienating too many people each and every day. Whether you agree with his policies thus far, I don't see how anyone can say he is handling things properly.

Obviously, Schindler really doesn't have a say in the matter, but I'm guessing he knows how this shit works and runs from the inside so his opinion and ideas carry some weight.

US national security officials are reportedly ready to “go nuclear” after President Donald Trump’s latest attack on the intelligence community.

In a series of tweets on Tuesday and Wednesday, Trump insisted that the “real scandal” was not that former National Security Adviser Michael Flynn lied about his contact with Russia. Instead, the president blasted what he said were “un-American” leaks that led to Flynn’s ousting.

On Wednesday, former NSA intelligence analyst John Schindler provided some insight into the reaction of national security officials.

“Now we go nuclear,” he wrote on Twitter. “[Intelligence community] war going to new levels. Just got an [email from] senior [intelligence community] friend, it began: ‘He will die in jail.'”

“US intelligence is not the problem here,” Schindler added in another tweet. “The President’s collusion with Russian intelligence is. Many details, but the essence is simple.”

That's a bit much. Stick with the investigation and don't make it into a witch hunt. There's no need; the guy is enough of a corrupt buffoon that there will likely be plenty uncovered without a need for an "IC war."

That said, Trump brought this upon himself and I will shed no tears for him.

Oh, I'm for investigations all over at the moment, after decades of GOP witch hunts over BS.

They are warranted in this case.

The American people voted for real change. The deep state bureaucracy doesn't like that, and is declaring war on the elected President. Time for a big housecleaning. Whatever your opinion of Trump, would you rather the freaking NSA run the country?

Seems pretty over the top, but things are really screwed up in the WH.

Agreed -- I added a small line to my OP to agree with you on that. It certainly a sensationalist's headline, but then again, if he's found guilty of even half the things people are slinging at him, he may be royally fucked.

If that statement is even serious/actually true it entirely depends on if Trump was/is really colluding with the Russian intelligence community or not. If that's true, then the house that needs to be cleaned out is the White House. If it's not then they better have a different, awfully good national security reason to be going to war with the president or they are the ones who need to go.

Statements like that just lend credibility to the criticisms about the intel community. This makes it less about country interests, more about petty vindictiveness.

Well, look at what this petty vindictiveness is about. When the intel community told the truth about Russia's hacking, Trump called them liars even though he knew they were telling the truth. He then gave a speech in front of the CIA's memorial wall and boasted about the crowd size at his inauguration. Trump started this war with them. So far as whether they are motivated by anger toward him, I'm sure they are, but that doesn't matter so much as what information they uncover.

Whether the Russians should be treated as an ally, a neutral, or an enemy is a high-level strategic decision that needs to be made by elected officials, not career spooks. Trump's de facto position, as far as I can tell, is that Russia could be a useful partner in the fight against Islamic terrorism. You can agree or disagree with that, but it's the President's call to make. Only Congress, a co-equal branch of government, would have the right to stop him. Unelected bureaucrats only have two honorable choices: get in line, or resign. They are not independent policy-makers and have no right to override the President.

Irrelevant. This isn't about the administration's policy on Russia, it's about the Trump team conspiring with Russia during the election and the Trump team being compromised by them.

Nice deflection from the act of treason committed by Trump here. I see you've attended the Conway school of bullshit.

And.. Um...
