The tesla jumped the start, easily half of second (look at when the brake lights go off). No tire smoke or exhaust on the M5 take off either... i claim shenenigans.

I claim shens on this also. I can totally see where the Tesla jumped the start on the video also. Also when you look at the specs the 2012 M5 I think has a 1/4 time of 12.5, the Tesla Model S performance has a 1/4 time of 12.6. So they are basically almost identical. However doesn't mean the Tesla is going to be beating the M5 at the 1/4.

Tesla is the new king. It makes me laugh seeing myopic gasoline fanboys bragging about sound and other crap.

king of what? E63 AMG can do 0-60 around 4.0 and it's a station wagon...these things are stupid comparisons.

Also looks like the M5 isn't using launch control. Apart from being late on the start, he also had a terrible start.

probably a hell of a lot, I'd hate to think of the heat generated from dumping that much energy into the batteries

Possibly, however "the sophisticated Tesla battery management system uses re-circulating propylene glycol to either heat or cool the battery as necessary."

glycol could help the battery dissipate the heat, but the heat builds up inside first before it can be dissipated.

I figure you lose 30min of battery life every time you use the 30 min quick charge

Doing some research it appears that the super charger has two modes. One is called standard and one is called Max range. Basically you control the charging as you plug it int. Also the supercharger ramps down as you start approaching the full capacity of the battery. For example if you arrive with 20% battery life it will quickly charge it to over 50% but slowly start ramping down the charging rate as the battery gets closer to full capacity to protect the battery. However I cannot find any good information on the charge rate of standard mode versus max range mode with the supercharger.

The bad thing about this is that you still have to haul around a ICE engine

Yes. You have to then take your card to the ATM machine, and put in your Pin number to get money out to refuel it. Do these cars have ABS systems? Do they use AC current or DC current? Do you have a chart that will show the features based on VIN number?

Only the rich can afford the fast version of the Tesla S, though.

The poor can afford a Mustang GT, which is right in the ballpark of those 0-60 times at about 4.5 seconds, and costs well under half as much.

I don't know any poor people who can afford a Mustang GT.

The Model S is properly fast and the times they're giving for the high-end model are conservative. It's immediate power, max torque is available at 0 RPMs. Any ICE is going to lag a little, add turbo and it's worse. Plus there are gear changes, with the Tesla there are none, it's just one gear. As you see in the video he said the Model S won 2 of 3 passes, and that's impressive, no matter what your bias. This is a city transport vehicle, first and foremost, and for that job it has no real peers.

The Tesla may be a fast car but I wouldn't want to buy a car from a company that isn't going to be around 2-3 years from now.

Relatively poor, not literally poor.

The high performance Tesla that all the talk is about is roughly $100K.
A Mustang GT is roughly $30K.

The base model Tesla is 0-60 in ~6.5 seconds and is roughly $50K.
A base model Mustang is 0-60 in ~5.5 seconds and is roughly $22K.

Are you asking if the Tesla Model S has these features?
