2 questions

1) can anyone tell us about the planar 19" in terms of FPS gaming? we already had one who mentioned the 1900FP had problems keeping up with counterstrike (25ms)

2) will the *1901FP* have a better response time?

If the 1901fp is the same as the Planar PX191 it will be a great monitor. It's just not going to be cheap

the 1900FP has bad ghosting supposedly. the 1800FP is better. some don't like the ghosting on the 1800FP, others, myself included, thought it was fine. the regular planar 19" sucks i hear also for gaming. i was gonna buy it last time it was on sale, but after doing searches, everybody said it sucked, and the PX191m was better, but more expesnive as well.

Personal observation-- I went from a 15" KDS lcd to the Samsung 17" 170MP(great monitor) and it really took some getting use to. I toyed with buying the 19" Samsung but have got say anything that size would probably been too much for me. I guess it is all about what you are accustomed to...........

Well... I am $488 poorer now. Couldn't resist the 19 inch Planar. No Tax and No Shipping - I just couldn't complain, except no DVI cable.

Hope I'll be able to use it next week.

Well, I'm also $500 poorer now (stupid tax). I'd been eyeing the Samsung 191T for about a month now, but the money just wasn't worth it. After this, I guess I won't be buying any more computer parts for the rest of the summer. Ah well, I hope this monitor is as beautiful as everything I've read about it says it is.

I need a good thin bezel that will do portrait and landscape modes --rotates -- it seems impossible for me to figure out which ones have this feature.

So would it be worth it for me to go to a smaller size monitor (possibly a 16ms 17") in order to have better game performance? I really wanted a bigger monitor, I'm on a 17" CRT right now. My wallet says yes, but my eyes aren't sure.

I have a friend that has an off brand (forgot the name) 19" lcd and I've noticed ghosting on it. It's tolerable, but I really think I want my monitor to have less ghosting. Also, how is the 1800FP as compared to the 19" monitors?

hmmmm.... I am needing a new pc and monitor. I have been waiting for dell to come out with a good sale on pc's. Should I jump on this monitor deal or wait for a combo deal? I really don't have a good feel on how good this sale is as I have not been looking long for an lcd. Any suggestions?

That's a tough one, with LCD technology continually improving ... "older" models (Dell 1900FP) will only get cheaper and cheaper until they are discontinued.

If you want wait a while, I would wait ... otherwise do your research, buy a good solid model with at least 3 year warranty.

it's pretty good for lcds, esp considering free shipping and no tax for most people.

the only thing i have to say about 17", 18" 19": they almost all have native resolution 1280x1024. getting a 19" over a 17" just makes your pixels larger, it doesn't give you any more screen real estate. maybe if your eyes are bad you can't see 1280x1024 on a 17" LCD (same viewable as a 19" CRT)?

Well my hopes were that dell would come out with a sale before the quarter end. Which is end of July. So I don't think that the natural price reduction of tech items will play into the equation. I am more worried about the possiblity that dell will give a great upgrade deal on an LCD with the purchase of a PC which I plan to do so by the end of the month.....

Good point! I would prefer 18" or larger on 1280X1024. My wife's 17" LCD is too fine for my eyes. My current 19" SONY Trinitron (18" viewabble) is doing 1152X864. 1280X1024 is too much on it for me. So I assumed 19" LCD will be ok for me.

1280 X 1024 is actually not 4:3 ratio like 1600X1200, 1024X768 or 800X600. It's actually 5:4. Wierd...

I've been watching these lcd deals lately and so far no 20" has even come close to what I paid for mine a while back at dell SB. It's the Planar PL201M 20.1" which I got for $662.55 (that price already includes tax AND next day shipping). Of course there was a little cash back back from my CC and from ebates on top of that. Sweet deal. However, there is alot of ghosting in the only game I play (vice city). I would have returned it if it wasn't for the good deal I got. I slowly getting used to it. Otherwise its a great monitor.

I think I ordered a 19" planar, but I recieved no confirmation email, and it does not show up under my dell order status. I dont think I have ever successfully ordered from Dell. Anyways, I hope this LCD cures my eye problems caused by me squinting to see the 1600x1200 on my 21". Although my 21" is a trinitron, I dont think the display quality/clarity can compare to a LCD. Any thoughts?

Click on the link in the bottom of this thread starter. It's all there.

BTW, it is 50 off 450 coupon, but it worked for NEC 1760NX BK, which is 449.XX (<450) before the coupon. Or maybe because it is over 450 before the 10% discount. Anyhow, I ordered this LCD < $400. A decent deal, I guess.

well, since that 19" lcd will be running no higher than 1280x1024, it shouldn't be a problem. it has about the same screen area as your 21" trinitron...
