No doubt huh?
Is that because the Camry has a poorly built interior with inferior materials, or because of the high rate of transmission failures?
Or because it drives and handles like a Buick?

I know nothing about the Camry, but we just rented an Altima for a week and it was pretty decent. It was a 2.5, got us about 25 MPG, and did fine on the highway for cruising speed and acceleration for passing. I put 1,300 miles on it in about 4 days and didn't hate it by the end, so I guess it's not a bad car.

You must drive poorly to get 25MPG out of the 2.5. I have a 2007 3.5SL and I get ~26mpg average. My last three fill-ups were 24.2, 27.15 and 26.1. Not too sure what happened with that 24'er, but let's just hope it doesn't happen again .
Also, Sheik, don't forget that Heen wants info on the 2.5, not the 3.5. We are useless in spreading our love .

Depends on what you mean by "better" ... I've driven several new Camrys & I must have missed the cheap interior you mentioned & although I havn't driven a new Altima, I have driven a Maxima & while it is a much sportier/faster car then a Camry, its interior was the one that seemed cheap to me. As for the transmission problems, from what I've read they apply to 6-speed automatics manufactured in 2005 & early 2006 & the problem has since been corrected.
Also the Camry competes with mid-range luxury cars like Buicks ... what exactly do you expect them to handle like?
Bottom line is that wether you personally like Camrys is one thing, but theres a reason that they are top rated cars in build quality & its not because they suck ... people don't buy Camrys to go fast, they buy them to ride quietly & smoothly down the highway with 2 kids in the back seat & a trunk load of groceries... if you buy one with the intention of using it as a sports car you'll be in for a letdown.

I think we only got 25MPG because a lot of our miles were through Sequoia National Park and along Highway 1 down the California Coast. It's pretty hilly and winding and not the best for mileage. I wouldn't rule out the fact that I drive poorly either though.

Since we're throwing the Accord in here might as well bring up the Aura. Heck I'd even give the '08 Malibu a shot.
