Know there are a variety of electronics deals at Wallyworlds but I was able to pick up several disposable batteries for my Nokia. They were only a $1 each. Like the box says--you never know when you will need one. They have them for other brand phones as well.

I saw these at sam's club the other day...I wasn't sure how well they worked though.

Let me know if they last long or not.

thanks

Why get disposable when rechargeables are already available??? You just clutter up the landfills :|

I think the point is for emergencies. If your rechargable runs out, you have the disposable ones. But you are completely right, why clutter up landfills.

All you californians this is good. Electric charges are so high that this is better. You probably waiste more than $1 charging your phone all night this is just great use it and trash it. Forget the charge and you will be saving electricity too.

Ok...first off, you do NOT save electricity...think about it...the electricity has to come from somewhere. Secondly, you do not waste more than $1 charging your phone all night. Think about how small a cell phone is.

-Ed

p.s. oh yeah if you needed it for emergencies...err...why not buy another rechargeable battery?

These are much cheaper than another rechargeable battery. Anyway if the landfills fill up, we can just dump the garbage in the ocean.

Charging a battery uses a few cents worth of electricity, so using rechargeables is still much more economical. And as for using a second rechargeable for an emergency, it's not a great idea since rechargeables lose their charge over time even if you don't use them.

dude, I hope you're kidding! that will ruin the whole oceanic ecosystem, and eventually come back to haunt us. just like ruining land that was used for landfill (in the 1st place)!

in any case, I'm not an environmentalist, but I try to do my share (tho quite little ) for the good of the environment.

disposable battery for $1 sounds good for emergency. 2nd rechargeable battery sounds even better. I was running on 2 rechargeables, then got lazy and now only use one of them. and no, not using any disposable battery.

wait, to the person who said that electricity is required for a regular (non-rechargeable battery), aren't "normal" batteries creating electrical charges through chemical reactions? thus, they aren't "charged" with an electrical charge, they just have checmicals undergoing checmical reactions (yes i suck at explaining stuff). i remember reading about this crap in my 4th semester of physics...

Because recharables, especially NiMH, lose charge over time. One of these disposables will probably be good for up to two years... and a heckuva cheaper then a recharable.

you are correct, but i believe he was referring to the point that electricity is used to operate the machines that create the disposable batteries..not to mention the resources that are extracted from the earth, etc. (and the point that those resources are being wasted as well as the rest of the stuff.

i'd say it wouldn't be a bad idea to keep one disposable battery in your glove compartment just in case, but i wouldn't run my phone off of them

perhaps he's referring to the power used to manufacture them?
I dunno
Regardless since everyone else has $0.02 in I may as well add mine, I think that these disposables are a great! idea for anyone to keep arround, think about it, you're flooded out/snowed in/held hostage by anal probing aliens that look like barbra striesand, in any of these situations it's quite likely that you won't have access to a main to charge from. In such cases this would be invaluable, you can't just keep a rechargable charged up for ever, I'm not sure what kind these are, but if they are the ones activated by O2 then that is probably the best, since I don't think they lose any charge at all hardly. anyways I should be studying for the GRE or something, so nuff of my $0.02

Ummm...yes, from a chemical reaction in the battery. A battery isn't like a big capacitor that stores electricity or something.

Thanks for the good tip. For a few bucks, it's definitely worth it to have in the car or something for that "just in case" factor. Hopefully I'll never need that batteries, but in the event that I'm in a jam and running low on batteries, it's always good to have a backup...just like a spare tire in a car. You can get a tow truck and all that, but sometimes that's not an option.
