1.4 Athlon problem, again...

I know the post regarding the 1.4 Athlons are getting tedious, but I have a specific question I need help with.
I have a 1.4 Athlon with ECS K7S5A board and enlight 7237 case (300W). I have experience many random lock-ups and graphics problems when running at 133 MHz FSB. This resolves when I run it sugnificantly underclocked on the 100 FSB. I tried many things, to include BIOS, Driver and OS upgrades/installs wihtout help. I did notice these probelems seemed to resolve with the case open, with my CPU temp around 41C. When the CPU temp climbs to around 50C, the problems reappear.

I fairly convinced this is a "heat" related issue, however, in most of the posts I've read 50C should be no problem. My guess is my power supply cannot keep up with the increased demands of the CPU at that temperature.

Before I buy a new power supply, I just wanted to be sure I was interpreting this correctly. Basically, an open case just won't fly with my significant other. Also, I have a SVC Golden Gate 40, and the 8000 RPM fan sounds like a small jet engine. I may chnage to a 60-80mm fan converter.

Any comments or suggestions. Thanks.

Ok this is a shot in the dark.

Remove your heatsink and look at the base of the heatsink and check if your all your CPU core surface is properly touching the CPU.
You might not properly seated your heatsink.

I had the same problem because only 1/2 of my CPU core is actually making contact with the heatsink.

Thanks for the input. I'll try it. However, it still doesn't answer that question of why it locks up, without overclocking, below 50C. Doesn't seem right.

When my heatsink thermalright sk-6 is not seated properly it won't run at 1.4ghz
It always crash eventhough the temp reading in bios is only 45C.

I even got a lockup inside the BIOS at 43C.

Currently I'm running at 1502(143x10.5)
CPU Temp Full load is between 40-44 depends on my room temp.

I'm running Micron 2100 DDR, GeForce 2 GTS.
There is an option to run the RAM at 133 (266) and the CPU at 100 FSB, and I haven't run into any lock-ups that way.

I hope this isnt ugly , but check your CPU code for its FSB, or check the clock speed at boot up, you may be trying to OC a 100 FSB TBird to over 2G =p

Just a thought

I cant think of anything else it would be
