1.4 T-bird won't work on EPoX 8K7A

I've tried 2 different 1.4 chips on this board and neither works. No POST, all I get is "FF" on the LEDs. It works fine with a 1.2gig chip. I've been running it this way for a few weeks now. If I try the 1.4gig chips it just won't POST (I've got TWO 1.4 CPUs now, I thought I cracked the first one when 'puter wouldn't post, so I bought another one later when I got a Swiftek 370 HSF that I felt more comfortable attaching/removing). Please help, I've spent over $300 on chips that I (apparently) can't use. Is there some setting I have to change before I can use them?

try upgrading the bios, maybe that will help..??

Make sure your multiplier adjust switches are all off, or they are set to 10.5x

Also, you need a good power supply for the higher speed t-birds, but even with a bad PSU, the cpu should be able to post and make it to Windows.

SiNisTeR- BIOS is (IIRC) 6.xx. It's a rev 1.1 board with the "as shipped" BIOS. I'm kinda scared to flash it. I run Win2000 and am not sure what to do about a boot disk, I have Win98 boot disks around but I don't know if they'll do the job, and I want to backup the BIOS "in case", so I don't want to use the "alt+F2" method.

DieselMan- Multiplier set (tried both) like you said, PSU is an Enemax 465. Should be plenty, huh?

flashing the bios is a breeze, in fact i use win98 start discs to get me into command and then i run the bios util. if its the util that im thinking of, you will have a chance to backup before you write the new one in. very simple, i know i was worried the first time i did mines. FYI i dont even have this mobo...but sometimes when i flash my bios i hope everything gets screwed up so that i can get the epox board.

Problem is, there's no 8K7As around now. Everyone seems to be looking for one. I got mine about 5 weeks ago before the wave hit. The guy at PCnut may have some in stock.
