Hi all, new here, but been studying this overclocking thing for a while and finally decided to go for it. My old Dell PIII setup was feeling a bit underpowered compared to the 2+ Ghz setups everyone has these days...

Here's mine:

1. 1.8A @ 2.52 (140 fsb) default 1.5v
2. Alpha 8942 w/ Sunon 50cfm and ASIII. (OK, so it's not stock Intel HSF...)
3. Corsair XMS 3200 (rev 2.1, cas 2.5) @ DDR 420 2-6T-3-3 (2:3)

I'm thinking this is very good, considering I'm running everything (w/ a bunch of drives, fans, and a cold cathode) at only 300watts. The pack date for the processor is 6/9/02, Made in the Phillipines. Does anyone know how high this one can go, preferrebly, at around 1.65-1.7v max? I can't test too much higher because my PSU can't provide the juice! I have a feeling I can get around 2.7Ghz stable with more juice. What do ya'll think? Even if I can't, 2.52 Ghz is more than sufficient for me....!

Anyway, been considering modding and OCing quite a while, and this is my first attempt (it's so danged easy these days!). My old 933PIII was crampin my style....so here I am! This looks to be a fun hobby

Here's a question....

when I bump down my CPU to 133 fsb, it's read in the bios as a "Pentium 4 2.40B" processor. For those that have 1.8As, does your CPU read the same under bios?

If so, then I guess the current 1.8As are really just underclocked 2.4Bs....? Or do I just have a 1.8A that happens to be an underclocked 2.4B?

P4 2.0A @ 2605mhz 130fsb 3:4 DDR347

1.60v
Alpha 8942 w/panaflo 24cfm; AS3
Asus P4B533-V; 2 x Samsung PC2700-CTL

haven't tried going beyond that yet

EDIT: if i got a stronger fan for my CPU, do you guys think my CPU would cool down A LOT more, allowing me to o/c more? my current temps are like 44 on idle and around low 50s on load

Heres mine

1.6A @ 2.43 152FSB, 1:1 (couldn't do 3:4 on the sucky ram)

1. Default Voltage

2. Retail HS w/ AS2 then Volcano 7+ on lowest fan speed (a whopping 10 degrees lower under full load)

3. Asus P4B533, Kingston PC2100, Future Power 400watt.

Pic of it

EDIT
After 40 mins of Prime 152FSB failed, but runs fine at 150 overnight with prime

What is with all the 1.6 vcores??? Turn off the vcore boost on those asus mobos and test again....You are skewing the results....

.1v for me gets me 100mhz higher, but isn't telling the true story....

Are the boards dropping that much during load that 1.5v is what it is running at??

i managed to get my P4 2.0 @2.667 (133fsb)using asusp4s533 at default Vcore up and running but it crash sandra at about 5minutes.
Then i bring up the Vcore to 1.525 (.025 increase) and now it is very stable with no problem.

Duvie, you can't turn off the Vcore boost on the asus that I am aware of.I checked high and dry to see if their was a way.Atleast with my P4B533 you can't.It will just automatically overvolt 0.06 at idle. They shouldn't be getting a .10 overvolt, thats alot.I am not sure about certain other Asus models if they have that option to turn it off,but I doubt it.There is a jumper you set to give you settings all the way to 1.95V,but you will just toast your chip at that setting

Yeah...I know about the .06 overvolt by the newer boards but I thought maybe someone was using the jumper to be calling a .1v overvolt default. I know the math wouldn't work and likely a jumper boost and standard asus vcore boost should actuully be more like 1.66v...Sound like they would have had to use a +0.05v as well as the standard default asus boost...

I am curious as to whether i should use the retail heatsink/fan for P41.8 or buy something better.

I would like something quiet as possible.
