I have 4 reviews in the pipeline almost ready to go, and I'd like to know what kinds of overclocks people are getting with their 2.4A processors (I'm using this particular NW-A processor for the reviews). Yeah, I know there's probably going to be very few people here overclocking with a 2.4A processor, but there may be some.

I'd like to see how far you can overclock your 2.4A using the following conditions:

1) Default 1.5Vcore (you can go to 1.55Vcore if you'd like, no higher though).
2) Retail P4 HSF with fresh thermal pad (you can list whichever adhesive you use if you don't use the thermal pad).
3) Which motherboard, RAM, video card and PSU you're using.

However, if you don't have a 2.4A processor but you do have a 1.6A-2.2A processor (or even 2.26B-2.53B processor) you can write the same list I asked the 2.4A people to write. Maybe this thread can serve as a general database for Northwood overclocks, which will give me something to refer to in future reviews.

Come to think of it, there's probably already an "official" AnandTech Northwood overclocking thread floating around. But be a pal and list your data anyway. You get brownie points if you do!

2) Alpha S478 / vantec stealth 21cfm fan / ASII
(on default voltage temps are not an issue AT ALL - im talking mid to high 30s tops under prime95)

3) Asus P4B533 / Corsair XMS3000 / GF4 ti4400 / Enermax 550w w/thermal fans

here's a screenshot of my PCprobe after 15mins of Prime95.

1.6a @ 2.4
I haven't pushed higher since 2.4 is fast enough for me so far

1) Vcore 1.6 - haven't determined if stable at lower vcore yet, I'm lazy
2) Retail HSF w/ Arctic Silver 3
3) Epox 4G4A+, Corsair XMS3200, GF4MX 440, Antec True Power 330W

1. 1.6A oem @ 2.1333 . default voltage, bios says 1.45 volts, my ECS board undervolts and my 12v rail is weak, something like 11.3 volts .

2. i'm using an $8 enlight el cheapo heatsink.

3. my board is an ECS l4s5mg. no voltage tweaks, and max bus is 133. it uses the sis650 chipset and is microatx. my ram is generic PCB micron pc2100 @ 266mhz cas2.5 ultra timings. my video card is a robanton/prolink gf3 ti200 @ 210/470. and my power supply is an sfx microatx 200watt p4 supply. yes these are about the worst overclocking components on earth, but it does prime 95 for at least 8 hours stable (never tried longer) .
the case is a yeong yang a102 casper2 case, slim microatx. the cdrom drive is vertical and covers half the heatsink's intake . there is about a 2/3 " clearance from the bottom of the cdrom and the top of the hsf. has one output fan a 60mm 5000rpm one.

i'm getting a 1.8A oem in a week or so to try out, i doubt it'll make 2.4 at default but who knows and i'll post here.

1) P4 1.6A@2.32GHz 145MHz 3:4 387DDR w/ default voltage = 1.56v (idle)/ 1.50v (load) <-- Asus board does this

2) ThermalTake Volcano 7+ @ low fan speed setting (~3000rpm, 24cfm, 24dBA) with Artic Silver III
(with my current spec, max cpu load temp won't go higher than 47C, systemp 27C, room temp 24C, so @ default voltage should be even lower.)

3) Asus P4B266-C, Corsair 512MB XMS PC2700, VisionTek Ti4400 (o/c 300/666), Enermax 550w w/Adjustable Fan Speed (FMA model)

I don't know if I qualify because of

1) Default 1.5Vcore (you can go to 1.55Vcore if you'd like, no higher though).

since I had to go beyond that in my overclock. Not sure if you meant for that to apply to only the 2.4A, or everything. But regardless, here are my results anyway:

P4 1.6A @ 2400 150fsb 4:5 375ddr

1) vcore set to 1.65v in bios, 1.648v under load, 1.7-1.71v idle
2) Retail P4 HSF with stock thermal pad
3) Asus P4B533-V, 1x 512MB Samsung PC2700 (not original Samsung), Gainward GF4 Ti4200 64MB, Sparkle FSP400-60GN 400W

1) 1.6A at 2.56 (160fsb and 4:5 multiplier) With stock cooling and some atric alimunia instead of thermal pad. This is all at 1.55V

2) Ram - 2 sticks of Samsung on Samsung PC2100 @DDR 400 2.61V

3) Abit- BG7 with 300w DEER Power supply (came with case Says Eagle on Sticker but DEER printed into metal)

4) Geforce 2 GTS

edit:

I am now doing 2.66ghz and 166 fsb sync with ram. 100% stable at same Vcore

2) Alpha 8942 w/sunon 50cfm; ASIII
3) Abit BD7II-Raid; Samsung PC2700-DTL; ATI AIW Radeon; Antec SX1040 case with PP412X (400w)

Running @2691Mhz; 1.60v; 150fsb; 3:4 DDR400
OK - It's not below 1.55v but just a little over

EDIT: Just noticed all that replyed are 1.6A
Will be interested to see how that 2.4A with motherboard review turns out.

P4 2.53GHz @ 2.85GHz

1. Default voltage (set to auto). Asus PC Probe reads it as 1.55v

2. Intel Retail Heatsink/Fan

3. Asus P4T533-C, 1GB of Kingston PC1066 RDRAM (overclocked to PC1200 speeds), Asus GeForce3 v8200 Deluxe, Antec TruePower 380W

Hope this helps! I'm sure my 2.53GHz could go higher, but my motherboard is limited to a max of 150MHz for it's FSB, so I'm stuck until I see a BIOS upgrade that raises the limit.

That's actually quite an exceptional overclock for the voltages and cooling you're using.

P4 1.6a @ 2.4 150 FSB 4:5 375DDR

1) Default 1.56v (Asus Board)

2) Retail Intel HSF (stock thermal pad removed - now using Artic Silver II)

3) Asus P4B533-V ; Samsung 256 MB PC2700 ; GAINWARD GF3 Ti 200 (240/500) ; Generic 300watt PSU (boo on me)

It can go higher (on default voltage, I mean) I can just FEEL it...but I haven't tried =P
Chip has packing date of 6/12/2002 ; version # -003
RAM @ 2.6v ; AGP @ 1.6v ; Motherboard using 12v connector (no EZ-Plug)
Max Temp @ Full Load = 120F to 124F (49C to 51C)
Max Temp @ Idle Load = 100F to 102F (38C to 39C)

Hope this helps you current/prospective overclockers!

Something is wrong with my Northwood OC...once I figure it out maybe I can get it higher. But for now that's as far as it goes...Voltage increases don't help my system OC for some reason
