i wanted to post a category that lists all the different way to overclock a 1.6a. i'm new at this overclocking and i don't know really how and what to set the values to, but i think it would help if we can make a list of the different ways to overclock a 1.6a. so, please post:

system setup (MB, fan, ram, etc.)
current speed
fsb
ram ratio
vcore
temp
and any other relevant things

thanks in advance for your posts everyone. all the reading i've done on this forum has given me a lot of info.

(2) Crucial 256mb sticks of CL2.5
1 fan on rear of case
temps: 27/29 idle and 34/36 after SiSoft and Max Payne or Unreal for a bit

Epox ep-4sda+ (sis 645); 1.6a costa rica; fsb = 138 (2.2 gigs); cpu vcore = 1.625 (+.125); mem voltage = +.20 (2.76); case = 2.5; ddram command = 1T (2T for 2 sticks); ddram ratio = 1/1; using cheap ddram, elixr and possibly micron; cpu temps about 42 celcius with 5 case fans and Intel heatsink. Using turbo setting; sandra memory score is about 1087.

ASUS P4S333 w/ 1004c BIOS revision
SL668 Malay P4-1.6A@2.34GHz, stock voltage
256MB Kingmax 5ns PC2700@187MHz (4:5 ratio), base timing, stock voltage
26-29*C idle, 35-38*C load (thank you, winter) w/ arctic alumina, retail HSF

If ASUS would include Turbo1 or a 1/5 divider in the next BIOS revision I have no doubt this baby would do 166FSB.

Asus P4B266 (BIOS Ver. 1005)
P4 1.6A @ 2240Mhz (140fsb) 1.5V
Crucial 256Mb PC2100 - 2.6V - Ratio 1:1 (280Mhz) 2-2-2-5

Cooling and Temps:

P4 - Stock HSF with AS3, Idle 29C - Load 38C
Memory - Thermaltake Active Cooler 5000rpm
Antec SX830 Full Tower with 4 Antec 80mm 3000rpm (35cfm) fans (plus the psu fan)

Runs perfectly stable at 2.4Ghz with 1.6V (Idle 30C - Load 40C), but I don't feel comfortable with the Vcore bump (call me crazy).

Well it's not a 1.6a, but close enough

MSi 845 ARU
1.8a running at 2.52Ghz (stable)
139mhz
1:1 with samsung 2700 ddr (fastest timings possible in bios).
1.65v
45C Idle / 60C 100% load - stock hsf
Temp's high probably cause I have no case fans, but the system is quiet .

1.8a bum rush!

Epox 4SDA+
1.8a running at 2.394 Ghz (stable)
133mhz
1:1 with crucial 2100 ddr (when it was dirt cheap)
1.60v
45C Idle / 52C load
AVC Sunflower cooler (the 19.99 one, look in hot deals) and AS2.
Three quet low speed case fans.
I know I can push more, but this was my first overclock.
So I am happy with what I got.
Peace

P4B266-C (yes has the USB problem, wishing they would at least attempt to fix it)
Watercooled, Crucial 256meg DDR2100 @ 2.6v DDR
1.6A @ 2.4
150fsb
1:1 CPU to Memory ratio
1.725vcore (drops to 1.63 during full load as measured by MBM)
Uncalibrated full load 38C max, calibrated using Nevin's formula 35C max.

My powersupply is limiting my overclock and probably making me up the voltage more than necessary. I can run at 155fsb with 1.75vcore, but if I push the button to open my DVD, prime95 fails right then. So my 12v rail is most likely my weakness. I have the 330 watt Enermax (EG351P-VE).

Update....

Now running at 155FSB! Woot!!

Purring along totaly stable at 1.575V Vcore, Mem at 2.6V 2-2-2-5 - Ratio 1:1 (310)

The most surprising thing of all....My temps hardly changed at all, now it idles at 29C and load is 45C.

Ran thru 12 hours of Prime95 and about 10 runs of 3DMark 2001SE, the latter resulting in an all time personal high of 9070.
I'm extremely pleased

MSI 645 Ultra, P4 1.6a NW @ 2304 (144*16) 512 megs PC2400 DDR ram from OC systems. ATI Radeon 8500, 40 Gig 7200 rpm Maxtor HD. Runs at 49c with a upgraded hsf (nothing major). I am not impressed with the ram. I don't think this system is much faster then my Athlon XP 1600+ running @ 1600 (133*12=1900+) on a Soyo Dragon + MB. I think the Hard Drive performance on this motherboard is also not very good. (MSI 645 Ultra). I am still tweaking it. I did originally buy a SOYO P4S-Dragon Ultra for my 1.6a NW but it would not go past 1728 on that board. Stay away from the SOYO Dragon Ultra if you want to overclock! It sucks! Even though it is the same chipset as the MSI. (SIS 645). I hope they fix the SOYO P4S with a bios update.

I am having issue. I am using a Radeon 64mb and Radeon 8500. When the driver is installed in Win XP the system become very very unstable even when is not o/c. I did get a pretty high 3dmark with the 8500 @ 1.6(8256). So right now I am using the Radeon and 8SRX without the video driver and I am doing 2400 stable. Do you guys think is my mobo? Anyone one using the Asus P4S333 or P4b266 with the Radeon 8500 having the same issue as I am? Please help!!!

Gigabyte 8irxp f6 bios
1.6a, running at 2800Mhz (16x175) at 1.8v
AVC Sunflower
Kingmax DDR333 (2.7v) and ratio 1:1 (DDR350) @ cas2 :Q
temps: 36/37 idle and tops out at 56 load after hours of prime95 (is that bad for a northwood? cause i'm geussing if it was the cpu would throttle, but it doesnt)...

huge 120mm fan in the front and 1 90mm fan in the back, with the avc the whole rig sounds like a new car on idle

For P4B266, it's a jumper. Right next to the memory banks, below cpufan connector. 3 choices, 2.5(default), 2.6, and 2.7 volts.

If 133fsb is as high as you can go with your Northwood then you don't need a voltage increase with the corsair pc2400. If you take the fsb down to 132, take advantage of 3:4 cpu/mem ratio, then your mem is at ~175mhz which should be good for a corsair pc2400 at default voltage. I have no idea how well this type of mem handles an increase in voltage. I got a stick comin' in too, so if anybody knows...

I think it's the board. Gigabyte makes decent non-OC boards that sometimes can be found at low prices, the same price range as ECS. But they don't OC well, if at all. The product quality is just not enough, I believe. I'm using a Gigabyte board now, and it's very bad for OC. Even when it's stable, weird errors occur very rarely that is frustrating if U OC even a tiny bit. It's rock stable at default, though.
>>

I fixed it!!!! I updated my bios and install a new driver for the Radeon and now is running at 2399. I still get errors in Prime95 but I think is my PSU cause when I use my Channel Well 400w aka Antec 400w the computer runs more stable. Given I got 12 fans, 3 cd drives, and etc hook up to this machine. I think I need a new PSU. But I rather save my money for a new board and maybe a 2.0a when the price come down.
