Ok why cant I overclock my p4 1.6a that was on a asus @2.4 with 512mb 333mhz ddr??

I have tried to down clock my memory but didnt seem to help. Tried increasing voltage to both memory and cpu with no luck. Tried manually adjusting the pci and agp down. Plus in the bios it only allows my memory to run at 266 selectable instead of 333???

So it posts at 1.6 speeds? What heatsink are you using? How high of an overclock can u go andl it not post anymore? Possable the fan is on a little crooked? Did you lock down the PCI and AGP to there normal running speeds? Did you change anything else besides the MB?

anything higher....anything higher than stock it doesnt post. Temps are normal and all seems fine at stock speeds except when I boot in to windows it'll reset itself.

Again though with the p4b 266-c I had it at 2.4 with vbery very little temp diffrence

MSI 865 pe is total crap!! I had it & me too I could not overclock worth crap with it.

Do yourself a big favor & return it then go buy a Asus P4P800 or An Abit IS7.

do a search for msi 865 in the mobo forum & you'll see you're not the only one to hate this useless OC board.

the msi 875 board doesnt even come close to matching IC7/is7 and the asus 865/875 boards

OK Now I know this has to be a problem with the temp sensor on board. I just took one of the first 865pe neo2-ls boards we got in at work and stuck in a celeron 2 ghz it is sitting idle in the bios reading 116-118 F IDLE!!!

The bios revision on this board is version 1.1 the one on my board is version 1.2. I havent tried version 1.3 yet but just yet may do so.

So:
Bios Version 1.1 with celeron 2ghz is idle at 116-118 F
Bios Version 1.2 with celeron 2ghz is idle at 105-106 F

Where as my Asus p4b266-c with a p4 1.6 @ 2.4 stock cooling sits idle in the bios at ..... 95 F

ok Now I'm just talking to myself but I just updated to bios revision 1.3 and now the idle temps are at 98-100 F on a Celeron 2.0 Ghz ........thats a good sign I guess it keeps going down with each bios revision......

On a side note I was able to take this CPU to 2.6 with this bios revision and boot in to windows where before no o/c was possible.......

May have to try my 1.6A out again and see what happens.

Hi,

I'm new here. But I have the same problem. I have been running my P4 1.6A @ 2.13GHz (16 x 133MHz) with stock cooling and voltage without problem for more than a year now. I'm using a Gigabyte 845 mobo with PC133 SDRAM and I can say that it is very-very stable.

I recently bought a new MSI 865PE Neo2-LS coupled with a 512MB Infeneon DDR33 memory module and tried to run my friendly P4 1.6A but failed misserably.

Now, my MSI mobo and DDR333 stick is lying useless in my room.

I will appreciate if you can let me know the result of your testing after upgrading to 1.3 BIOS version. I'm just planning to run my P4 at the same speed as before (2.13MHz) so I dont need to buy a new processor.

Thanks,

2Toy
