I am planning on overclocking my 1.8A Northwood to 2.4 ghz. What should I up my voltage to? And what other settings do I need to change? Thanks.

Yes, using the stock heak sink/fan that came with the chip (it was a retail box CPU, should that be relevant).

i have a 1.6A that i pushed to 2.4 on two voltage bumps. i'm not sure what the default volatage is (i think 1.5V?). if thats the case, i used 1.55 volts. see what you can get on stock voltage, then bump it once if you cant get to 2.4, then see how far you can get with that voltage, make sure you monitor your temps aon every bump

really depends on ur chip
some of the later marking ones do not need to raise voltage at all...
just change ur FSB to 133...

My 1.8 does 2.53 at default....
So, just give it a shot, it might be very stable at 2.4 without you having to do anything but changing the fsb settings...
Good luck!

mine is a b0 stepping and it can do 150 fsb at 1.60 vcore on my asus board. asus overvolts a bit.

I don't think the 1.6A's made it past a b0 stepping, but mine does 2.4 on stock voltage and cooling no problem. Depends on your chip and system setup, though.

It really depends on the motherboard.

My first motherboard needed 1.725-1.75v for my 1.8a to be stable at 2.4GHz and even then it was iffy. My new motherboard is at 1.65v and is totally stable, in fact, rock solid stable as I haven't been able to make this thing crash.

I could probably lower the voltage but at 1.65v with an Alpha 8942 and a strong fan sitting on top of it I'm not worried about anything burning up. The cpu is reading 93F as I type this and I must have a dozen apps running in the background.

depends on which chip

to figure out the multipler:
divide MHz by FSB
i.e 1600MHz (1.6a) / 100MHz = 16x multipler
i.e2 2400MHz (2.4B b0&c1 steppings) / 133MHz = 18x multipler
i.e3 2400MHz (2.4C d1 steppings) / 200MHz = 12x multipler

The 1.6A is running stable at 2.7GHz using 170FSB. I up the Vcore to 1.66 volt and use a Zalman CNPS7000-AlCu cooler.

I had the AVC Sunflower cooler before. The system will run up to 6 cycles in SANDRA torture test and quite. With Zalman, it can run the torture test indefinitely.
