1.8A Problems overclocking with a Asus P4S533

Hey guys..

Hopefully i can get your expertise on this issue.

I read how wonderful and fast the P4S533 is, as well as how well it can overclock. So I picked this board up along with a retail 1.8A Northwood CPU. Ram is PC2700 Samsung brand. the system boots fine at default clock 1.8, but if I try 133fsb (2.4ghz), the system doesn't even post. Normally, i would look at cooling, but the system seems to run cool, and normally, with cooling issues, the system should atleast post, but not boot, or even crash during boot.

So again, no post at 2.4.. I've tried the setting the timing to 2.5T, still nothing. the Voice feature says something about the system not being able to start because of overclocking.

Any help would be GREATLY appreciated

UPDATE: I've set the voltage up to 1.7v (maximum without the voltage mod) and it still won't even POST.

Again, any help... please.

HI....

I have the p4s333 mobo so I think maybe I can help a bit...

1) make sure mem ratio is not to high...us 4:5 or 1:1....

2)Try giving the ram more voltage...jumper it to 2.7v max....

3) try using the voltage booster on the motherboard. p4s333 had a jumper that basically would give .1v boost extra at bootup.



Ultimately a few things need to be explained....A lot of ppl with 1.8's were not able to achieve 2.4ghz...1.7v may not be enough period....wire mod may help but ultimately you may go to a point where voltage is set too high and may be a risk.


What is the packing date??? Anything not newer then 4/02 may not get to 2.4ghz period

Did you:

Up the CPU voltage?
Set the DDR to SPD?

Also, try hitting the reset button if it talks at you. On my P4S533 w/P4 1.6a, I have the CPU voltage at 1.6v, CPU:MEM ratio at 4:5, the DDR timings at 2/2/2/5/1. When I do an initial boot up, it squacks at me. I then hit the reboot button, and it boots up fine.
