I don't know of any cheap Windows hosts.

That's definitely a huge untapped market.

I signed up for cheapwebhost's insanely cheap mini plan last week (a linux plan). It comes out to be $6.84/yr (year, not month) for 10 MB of space and 500 MB bandwidth, which is more than enough for my little personal website. The site is a little cluttered, and the support isn't top notch, but I don't expect much for $7/yr. It's only been about a week, but I'm happy so far. When I did have a problem (wanted to activate shell access), I got a really fast response.

There are ton of customer reviews on the host at http://www.findmyhosting.com/ (just search cheapwebhost) and most of them were positive, so I went with it. Worst case I lose $7...

does cheapwebhost take the amount out all together or monthly?

now to decide whether the $1.99 windows monthly plan is worth having than to running own webserver on my pc at home.

it'll cost me $29 prob with cheapwebhost, wonder how much in electricity it will cost me.

I always shy away from the hosts that are too cheap as they can't make any money and end up like that &$#%@ company that we stuck us all last spring.....

Buyer beware

well cheaphost has been in business for years and they do have great rating at findmyhosting.com - like 150 reviews, 91%

can anyone layout the pro and con of me having to host at home rather than go to cheaphost

Cast my vote for dixiesys customer service being "rude and offensive."

I was one of their original customers, back when they only had two servers. Unfortunately, the excellent service that Gary used to provide is no longer the case.

So people who to go to for windows hosting.

I need Access and ASP support.

I don't know if addaction provides it, otherwise I'll just keep hosting it at home.

Well if you are just thinking about electricity, then run some rough numbers to get an estimate. Say your electricity averages $0.10/kWh and your computer is actually using 250 W. If you have to run for an extra 12 hours a day, then you are looking at:

(250 W) * (12 h/day) / (1000 kWh/Wh) * (30 days/mo) * ($0.10/kWh) = $9/mo

This is a *really* rough estimate, but you can make it better by looking up your electricity cost, figuring out how much you'd use your computer if you weren't hosting (vs the 24 hours on for hosting), and finding out what the power consumption of your computer is actually like. Even if you have a 350 W power supply it might not be drawing 350 W; that's just it's max capacity.

For me, it's just a lot easier to not have to worry about the stability/location/status of my home computer.

Hey guys,

Since I can't host my own mail server at home due to RR blocking ports, etc.

Can I setup e-mail for my domain under the $0.57/month plan by cheapwebhost.us:

- 10MB Disc Space
- 500MB Transfer
- Unlimited POP Email
- CGI, PHP, Perl
- MySQL, Frontpage
- Cpanel, Shell Access

You should ask them about SMTP - it seems they only specify free POP.
Other than that, it looks like a go, but again, I would take it to the WHT forums where people would know better.

I don't think many people here will switch over Not many need Windows hosting.

AJ - I've PM'd you, if you can reply back that would be greatly appreciated. It was in regards to setting up a e-mail at cheapwebhost.us on their $0.57/month plan if its possible

Also, guys, I have narrowed down my search to the following windows hosting sites:

www.catalyst2.com - $19/year - seems the best so far

www.nevidia.com - $3.50/month

www.3shost.com - $4.00/month

www.cheapwebhost.us - $1.99/month

Anyone have experience with the ones above.

LoL this is not the best place to ask these kind of questions - I'm telling you, take this to WebHostingTalk.Com and they will answer all your questions and give you more help and information than you require

Just to let you all know that I went with cheapwebhost.us and it's great.

I choose the mini-plan $0.57/month to have them host my e-mail for my domain since RR blocks the ports.

So for like $6 and some change, I have my domain e-mail hosted for the year.

The support was excellent and quick, I didn't think it could work, but Mike at Cheapwebhost proved me wrong and helped me througout the entire process, even though I had just paid $6.xx

The control panel and entire interface is awesome.

Check them out at www.cheapwebhost.us

Exactly. You people do know that Code Red & Code Red II were solely executed using flaws in Microsoft IIS. Believe me, that thing is a POS! You may choose Windows for a desktop, and that's a reasonable decision, but to choose IIS for webhosting.... That's like driving a Pinto by CHOICE!
