Has anyone had that happen, where they have filled all 4 slots with 1GB sticks and 1 GB of the ram doesn't show up in bios or windows?

I know it's not the stick, since I swapped out the stick with another and still get the 3GB... is it posisble the memory socket busted or something?

What version of windows are you running. If its 32bit XP or Vista, 3gig sounds about right. You need 64bit OS to access all of the 4 gig.

I'm actually experiencing the same problem as the OP, except I'm using Vista Ultimate x64, and it only shows 3GB out of the 4GB I have plugged in. Is there some setting I need to change or what?

Perhaps you have to change a setting in the bios, to make use of more then 4gb? I think I've got some kind of setting in my bios, and I think it's related.

As for gannon, what dark cupcake said It actually be funny if you are running windows XP or Vista 32x

I'm more worried about the bios not registering it I don't care about the OS so much, the BIOS is not showing the 4GB when it ticks up the memory, shouldn't it?

I'm not sure what the options is called, but it has something to do with memory remapping. It should remap the 3 gig to 4 gig above the 4 gig addresses. That 3 gig to 4 gig memory address space is usually allocated for system devices (graphics, pci cards etc).

My board came with it already enabled so I never had to play around with the settings.

More or less. Read the BIOS manual for the memory mapping options.

You'll still only see just over 3GB or so if you're running XP or Vista 32-bit.

Depending on the remapping, you might lose around a gig if enabled on xp or vista 32-bit. If the OS cannot go beyond 4G, it should always be disabled

Memory remapping, that's what I ment. I noticed it on my asus mobo, but I only got 2gb, so never had to bother with it.

I'm surprised you haven't come up with a way to convert the amount of memory windows shows into light and then say that our ears can see that light.
