2)CompGeeks has been very shady lately...(IE Advertise things as new...and it come clearly used...So if this is advertised as used, how does it come to your doorstep? With broken/missing pins?)

3)30 days Geek Warranty (which does not really mean much)

For $76.00 you can get a 1Ghz Athlon Thunderbird (OEM) from newegg.com ... imho with the risk of it being defective and the fact that the processor was used (and who knows to what extent and for what purpose ... could have been overclocked and the lifespan maybe shortened) ... you're much better off buying it from newegg. For $100 you can grab a retail boxed 1Ghz too which includes a 3 year warranty from AMD and a heatsink/fan ..

BTW- newegg's 1Ghz Thunderbird is now selling for cheaper than their 1Ghz Duron!

That's because AMD just introduced the 1Ghz Duron to the consumer market. Of course it will start a little high.

Sorry if this seems like thread cr@pping. Its just not worth it. Its a 200fsb & used. This a geek special so you dont get 10% off, its $72 plus tax & shipping.You can get a 1.4 gig 266fsb for$105 + $7 shipping OEM right off of price watch(TCWO). I have not had any problems with the geeks, and have purchased many times from them.

Where do you see that the duron beats the athlon? From the very review link you provided, the Athlon beats the duron, hands down.

With AMD?s current pricing on CPUs, it doesn?t make much sense for those in the enthusiast community to lust after the new Duron. Your savings won?t be that great and in most cases, performance will be significantly lower than an equivalently clocked Athlon CPU

Well the 1Ghz Duron is based upon the Palamino core (only 64kb L2 Cache), so if you need SSE or you use programs that work better with hardware pre-fetching you might benefit from a Duron 1Ghz instead of a Thunderbird 1Ghz ... It only runs at a 100Mhz bus (200Mhz from the CPU to the chipset) though so you would probably gain more by getting a 266Mhz FSB 1Ghz Athlon than you would running a 200Mhz FSB 1Ghz Duron.
