Too bad you need open field line of site, and you also need to hope that there isn't any other interference along the way. Good luck with that.

I'm not convinced it really works at a mile's distance. Anybody have experience with this?

Edit: Not crapping, am interested and want convinced!

More than one mile open field line of sight performance.

Doubt you will get that 1 mile in real life situations. I dont believe there is anything better than the Pre-N routers. (and this is NOT designated as a pre-n so it is probably 'only' a G router)

So thumbs down on ParkerVision for the hype.

Ps: Not intended as a thread crap to the OP. Just a heads up for other AT members.

Edit: Damn this place is fast

These are primarily suited for prarie dogs with laptops or farmers watching porn while they're molesting their cow herd...others living in a populated society need not apply.

Or... it could be good if you had like a large business and needed on AP to cover a decent size campus without having to mount an external antenna or place extenders around.

Thanks, OP!

Yeah...but if you're going to do that, you might as well just place multiple WAPs around on differnet channels to improve signal quality and help increase the client's transmitting ability. Everyone forgets that the little antennas on a laptop only go so far...

picked one up last week at geeks, i have to say the signal quality is incredible.

it drops from 4-5 bars to three rather quickly (fast falloff) but hovers around 3 bars for a huge distance. I brought my laptop out to the garage (300ft from my house) and had no problems using it with the pcmcia card included with the kit.

Picking one up to give my g/f's sister internet access, she lives a ways down the road, thanks for the heads up OP. Also nice to hear from someone who has it and likes it.

2.4 ghz radiating at that much power? It's like leaving your microwave oven open while you cook!

Naa, this thing only goes up to 50 mW, about 1/20000 of most microwaves output.

could I use this as an access point with my linksys wgrts? I'm about to bite!

EDIT: review says,
I noticed, however, that downlink streaming for the ParkerVision products took a large throughput hit with high packet loss (example: 235kbps and 52% loss), even with client and router right next to each other!
