I don't know about Telocity service somewhere else but in my area, Daly City, Telo Suxxxxxs big time.

It took them 6 months.........and still NO GO.
I ordered it since they still had that for $39.95

I don't have Telocity, but they're one of the highest rated on dslreports.com.

HOWEVER, if you don't have DSL, you should know that a carrier in one city often has very little to do with a carrier in another. All of them suck, in that it will take far longer to get installed than they promise.

I have Mindspring, they sucked on the installation, but I get a constant 1400K, so I can't complain too much.

My advice is to avoid the providers with the incredibly low ratings, and then just pick one of the higher-rated ones and roll the dice.

monty...yea, earthlink/mindspring install sucks....i placed my order on sept 27....almost 2 months...understandable, i guess....but the thing is...verizon and covad and earthlink and have poor communication with each other...so i'm supposed to call earthlink re: my installation status and if their are any problems....but they don't know jack...since verizon sucks and they tell covad that everything is done when it's not...so far, i had at least 3 or 4 scheduled delivery dates with verizon as per covad...none of which did i actually see anyone from verizon...and neither did my super or any of the doormen...so i figured that i wouldn't HAVE to see them since the e-mail said so...ok, i let that go by...so i call up earthlink re: my second or third scheduled date...and they told me that verizon couldn't complete the install because no one was home..and they knocked on the door or whatever....bullsh!t...i was home that day from work until 4 PM...and then my girlfriend and her brother were there for the rest of the evening...no one came to the apartment at all that night...now, for the past 2-3 weeks...i've been getting late scheduled delivery dates. for example, a couple of days ago, i got an email from covad stating that my next scheduled delivery date is October 27...ehhh....2001??? dumb asses

I order this 2 weeks ago. the woman on the phone said 4 to 6 weeks for installation. I got hooked up last night.

The people from northpoint left my house last night after working on it for 2+ hours. They ended up running a brand new cable from the main telephone box through the crawlspace of my building and installing a new phone jack directly. All at no cost.

Great customer service.


<$40 / month is a pretty decent deal for now. With no annual contract your not tied in to anything. + installation is free, and in my case it could have cost more that $200.

darn...too bad i didn't know about the free month promo. =( i just got my telocity installed here at school last week. the whole thing took just about a month from when i ordered. still, i'm not so impressed with it as i am with my at&amp;t@home back home... here i barely get 384k (but i know other people in my neighborhood get the full 1500k), and it took a month to install, but my cable modem took less than a week to install and i usually get 2-4Mb on the speed tests--even though the majority of the people on my street have a cable modem. i bet it's pacbell's fault since they tend to screw everything up . oh well, time to go back and yell at them again... =P

I hated Telocity when i was with them. their service was terrible, when i cancelled they tried to charge me on everything they can think of (totalling $425). Now i'm with mindspring and they are great. It seems that their ratings improved on dslreports, but I'm still wiry of rhythms dsl service, i like covads service much better.
