Does this service have a web interface? I have easynews and LOVE it. Instead of downloading 834 files in some weird yenc format or some other junk, it already combines them and decodes them so you can download the one final file you want. I don't see that feature in theusenet.com

When did easynews start to include that? I used it some years ago and you always needed a program like Newsbin pro.

I know! They didn't used to advertise it. A friend showed it to me. I think they finally included a link to it on the main member page. It was 'beta' for a long while. It's

That's the web based search engine. It's amazing how many criteria you can filter on and there are like 8 different ways to view the data (thumbs, list, etc).
It's worth it to try it for a few weeks.

$11 per month is not a good deal.

Watch for specials at newsgroupdirect. They often sell 1,000 GB blocks for $50 that never expire. Unless you're a heavy downloader, its hard to beat that deal.

I saw that from a previous post. That is pretty awesome except they don't have a kick butt web interface do they?

Its been there since I joined 8 years ago... although it wasn't until like the last 2 or 3 that they did the autounrar, making movies and sound files in archives directly downloadable. It will also autoPAR so if a series of post is missing some, but enough par files were posted, easynews will generate the missing archives on their side.

It is truly the easy button of the newsgroups.

Ok, but how about FREE Usenet access? Try http://www.xsusenet.com/
I've been using for months now. Not the fastest speeds ..but its free and looks to have all the newsgroups.

Yeah, signed up with these guys for myself and my buddy. I use Giganews, which has incredible retention, but xusenet is a Dutch usenet service that doesn't process deletion requests (HBO likes to submit deletion requests to foil usenet downloads of their shows) - which means some binaries are complete there, even if they aren't retained as long as giganews...

The freebie works good as a backup when messages aren't present in your primary usenet server.

Easynews always had a web interface. I wrote an app for that a LONG time ago, also created an extension for Firefox to grab links and dump them into a GetRight queue.

Now I'm content to let apps like SickBeard do my crawling, or use newzbin.com for searches and have SABNZBD do all the dirty work of downloading, assembling, verifying, repairing and unzipping. SABNZBD even has some handy plugins (I use Chrome now) to make it easier to submit an NZB file from sites like newzbin.com

How long before they send the email reply after signing up?
Thanks.

Just remember after signing up for these services and using a good web interface... Might as well go out and find a good deal on 1-3TB hard drive... HD sucks up a lot of space and you'll be wishing you had more in no time.

The Easynews web interface is simply brilliant... is there something equivalent that is not web based that can be used with different newsgroup services?

I'm on the $5.00 a month unlimited Thundernews plan. 50 connections, SSL, great retention. Been with them almost a year now, I highly recommend them.

I just want to try their services for that $1 during this month. So can I quit the service without any future paying after November ends ? Thx for reply.

I tried and I just cancelled. Sucks. I hate NNTP raw with no nice web filter. Get easynews.

Nope. News clients have been (and generally allways have been) lacking in their ease of use vs functionality with binaries and text post.

Every year or so I would go out and check up on the best clients; on my last run I ran into a fairly good one called newsleech. It handles sorting of archived files well, including their par files, and yet still maintains a high level ability to read and post to the discussion based areas of usenet. Its really the best one I have seen ever since xnews started to be come defunct over 5 years ago.

As for thundernews..I see no $5 unlimited option. Even the old %50 discount for life subscription was only available when the unlimited plan was $20.

SABNZBd being a background service that you access with your web browser is one of the ugliest and unfriendliest interfaces I have ever seen.
