Easynews is the best. 10$ a month and they have an incredible web interface where you can query for anything you want with an insane number of filters such as date range, size, type (audio, video, etc), etc. Newsgroups SUCK if you don't have something filtering one thing you want and giving it to you in one lump file. With standard NNTP access you have to peruse through tens, or hundreds of thousands of posts and, if you find what you want, it is probably 200 different rar files, yencoded and they will be riddled through 800 other posts. So then you have to try to download all 200, then you have to ydecode them or whatever, then unrar them. It's insanely difficult. Some newsgroup readers make it SLIGHTLY easier but it's still a huge pain. With easynews I may do something like search for "SomeMovieName" and check 'video' type and whola. There it is. I just right click and choose save as and the final mkv or avi (or whatever it is) comes down. If there is a way as easy as easynews and cheaper I'll bite. I signed up for this for 1$, just downloaded Forte, which I haven't used in like 7 years, and it's everything I remembered; a huge pain in the ass. Back to easynews. JeffMD is right.

Am I missing something or is easynews $10 a month for only 20 gigs? Yhat´s only two 1080p movies, not enough for me.

Why not use a cheap provider (like astraweb unlimited) and an indexing service? Nzbmatrix charges a one time $10 dollar fee, and the site is pretty good.

because you will probably have crappy completion rates with a $11 unlimited service. there is a reason you don't see $11 unlimited accounts on the top 5 news services. Easynews is prolly on the low end when it comes to dollar per gig when it comes to the top 10 services, others are giving like 25-40 gigs for $10 (You can also download more then 20 gigs if you stick to easynews's nntp server).

On the plus side, only with easynews can I search for the movie, click the thumbnails, and see what it is I am actually downloading. If you download blindly using NBZ files, you will find yourself with crappy foreign rips or password locked archives.

Not sure what your experience is with bargain usenet services but with Thundernews and nzbmatrix, I don't have a problem with retention or finding what I need. The members help each other by commenting on files which makes finding stuff and downloading easier than getting hit by a bus.

This whole post is absolutely full of false information.
I don't have any problems with retention or completion rates using Astraweb. I've never found myself with "crappy foreign rips" or passworded archives using nzbmatrix. Like goobee said the members help each other out with comments.

It's not full of false information. It's actually very good. I actually pay 15$ a month for easynews to get longer retention and more gigs. My gigs roll over and I'm at like 800GB. I also have plenty of retention.

What JeffMD and I are saying is we don't CARE what any retention rates, gigs/month, etc are if we have to use NNTP! NNTP sucks balls! Another person mentioned it earlier that he's tried all kinds of tools and every now and again trys again or tries something new and it still sucks balls. I just signed up for the OPs original service, tried a couple of NNTP reader and they still suck major balls compared with easynews. Easynews is just plain easy. I would LOVE to switch to ANYONE else if they were just as easy if not easier. It is a painfully simple, web search interface with everything unrared-unyenc-etc. Just download the ONE file of what you want usually. Now I just looked around the astraweb web site and can't find anywhere it says it is anything other than an NNTP provider.

JeffMD 100% knows what he is talking about.

Summary: NNTP through EASY Web interface with everything done for you.

Those prices are a joke. Maybe if you're a small down loader it might not be a problem but I did the math and for me it would cost around $30+ a month. lol No thanks.
The only plus for easynews I can see is their web interface but for those prices hell no not worth it.
I'll stick with my Astraweb/Saznzbd for $11 unlimited its never let me down. Have fun with your high prices and "awesome web interface".

I'm a guy who doesn't want to spend all day searching across 45000 different files for the 200 I need...maybe they exist...or a few are missing...then downloading each one...then yencoding them....then unraring....

I prefer to spend my time having sex with living females, not getting wedgies, having a job and life, living in a non-parents-basement, and not being such a fat-loser-dork-in-a-wheelchair spending half his day screwing around with NNTP groups. I like being such a non-pasty-troll that I've never even heard of 'Bob'. Be proud of your obscure, 'witty', outdated tech references. I guess I won't be running into you at Dragoncon in your home made Stargate or Borg outfit.

Now that's enough said.

Gotta love trolls. Thanks for adding nothing.

What are you talking about mleejr? Searching across 45000 different files then downloading each one and yencoding them?? What is that?

I type in Harry Potter for example and then click search, once I find the title I'm looking for I dl the file and Sab does all the unpacking and repairing in one seamless process. Automatically at that, I don't even notice it since it runs in the background.
The first half of your post is confusing.

I just love this guy. Comes into a "$1 unlimted usenet access" thread and blathers about how hard and time consuming it is to use a search engine and news reader, preaches about a higher price alternative and can't formulate a good argument without using childish remarks. Let's see, off topic and spouting troll accusations. Have you looked in a mirror lately? You'll find the troll there.

Don't claim something sucks balls because you don't know how to use it. Anyone who spends time manually yencoding and unraring is either a complete moron or simply just uninformed.
Your entire criticism contains no substance. The people who usually resort to saying "my life is better than yours", "I make more money than you", and such are those that know they've lost the debate and are simply trying to go out with a bang by saving face.

What is it?

SABnzbd is an Open Source Binary Newsreader written in Python.
It's totally free, incredibly easy to use, and works practically everywhere.
SABnzbd makes Usenet as simple and streamlined as possible by automating everything we can. All you have to do is add an .nzb. SABnzbd takes over from there, where it will be automatically downloaded, verified, repaired, extracted and filed away with zero human interaction.

I just got the deal on the rest of the month. Is it automatically renewed?

The quality of newsgroups appear to be so bad now. Most of the groups I visited in the past are full of fake posts. Can you recommend a few good ones? Looks like I can hardly use 10GB even if I download for the sake of downloading.
I'd be interested in apps, movies.

Go to nzbmatrix or nzbrus and register for an account. Registrations are free but you're limited to the number of downloads per 24 hour period.
Once you figure out which nzb site you like(there are many out there the 2 I listed are just some examples to get you started), most have a vip program that is usually a one time fee and that will unlock your account to give you unlimited access.
Start there and if you have any questions just ask here or shoot me a pm.

SABNZBd being a background service that you access with your web browser is one of the ugliest and unfriendliest interfaces I have ever seen.

If you are doing it right, you never see the web interface other then a during configuration changes. Drop a .nzb into a folder and it scans/downloads/repairs/moves everything.

I don't see the difficulty with NNTP. I have a newsgroup provider that I pay $13/mo for, and I use Newsbin Pro with a .nzb watchfolder, and I have SickBeard which grabs all the TV shows that I want, automatically, a few hours after they're posted. I have a Plex media server on the computer which handles sharing everything to my household of Plex clients, so I have a beautiful interface to this media everywhere. And it's all automatic.

I can't ask for much more in a media setup.

Be sure to use HTTPS for both your newreader and your nzb websites (e.g. Newzbin.com).

I just now checked back in on this.

As someone mentioned, you should rarely HAVE to use SABNZBd.

But you're right. The default skin sucks. Bad. Change it to smpl - white. Problem solved.
