MLB the show comes out every year with minimal changes = people praise the game

Madden comes out every year with minimal changes = people crap on the game

aaah gamers. logic doesn't follow us around sometimes.

I see no complaining here.

Take a game that is pretty bad in some aspects and has flaws in physics and AI like madden and add almost no changes to the core issues and you have a bad game. Can it be fun? Sure but if you are a sports nut and analyze the game you can see that there are things that just shouldn't be able to happen. A consistently good game like the show which is one of if not the highest rated sports title year after year, and add a few small adjustments to make it better is totally different. It isn't in need of anything major IMO.

I think the best thing this year is never having to go to the menu to select the next game in your road to the show character career.

Anybody know why my trophies would not be showing up online? My son's are, but it still shows I've earned 0 trophies (which is definitely not true)

What sliders does everyone use? I find it too easy to win by a large margin in my franchise and when I raise the sliders for the CPU i will have too many home runs hit against me and I have no chance cause I can't hit against their perfect pitching.

I cannot seem to find a middle ground and it has been a long time since I played the show so I don't remember if I had this issue before.

I use TNK'S Slider Set from Operation Sports.

I've been using his for the last several years (at least 3 or so) and have had fantastic results in all my franchises.
This year however I've noticed that the CPU seems to REALLY struggle on offense, and I've been able to shut them down or hold even prolific offenses to a couple of runs a game with the 3rd or 4th pitcher in a rotation.
He's been tweaking them and its still a work in progress, but they're still probably the best slider set around for me.

Welp, that's a hell of a pull from my son

Nice! Last year I pulled Mike Trout and Ted Williams, I think because I opened my packs as soon as I got the game home on release day.

This year, I had to wait a few days before I could even pick up the game I pre-ordered and then couldn't get time to install it right away, so when I did finally open my packs (ordered the standard version), I got nothing but some bronze players. My rookie card was a Rookie David Ortiz.

I mainly play RTTS and have already brought my 2015 player into this year's game, but I am really looking forward to getting to put some time into the DD Conquest Mode.

Ummm dumb question, but I bought the MVP edition and used the code to unlock the packs etc. However I didn't get the 5,000 stubs? Everything else seemed to show up just fine. WTH?

On a different note, as outlined in this thread earlier, I ended up with two copies of the game on release day -- both pre-orders from Amazon. I returned one of them, but I actually used BOTH the bonus codes emailed to me from Amazon and ended up getting 20 packs free!

I'm still trying to figure out everything in this game buy have been playing RTTS and DD a ton and LOVE it to no end. There's still some oddities but all in all I could not be happier.

I opened 20 packs on release day and got a bunch of golds. My son opened 10 packs on release day and got NOTHING. That Grienke was off a purchased pack. He got the rookie Ortiz too. I actually got a standard Ortiz and he sucks.

You should be able to redeem your stubs just like you did your packs. Go into the marketplace where you would buy stubs and you should have one entry there that says Redeem instead of Purchase.

I keep waffling on this. With Quantum Break out today (and installing its massive butt onto my XB1), I don't know how I would find time for The Show, between QB, Neverwinter, The Division, and (if I ever get back to it) Kingdom Hearts. Too many games that take a lot of time to play through. I'm almost glad Quantum Break is being called short, so I can feel like I've made progress by finishing SOMETHING for a change.

Yeah I was bumming around in my account on theshownation.com and noticed I had to redeem them. That step is stupid -- if I purchased or whatever, why is"redeeming" is necessary?

I am playing the show in small spurts. Did 3-4 games in a row on Saturday and took a break until yesterday where I played 3 more games and am taking a break. This way I don't burn myself out on it.

If finishing games is your goal, The Show is your kryptonite.

Of course, that's not exclusive to The Show, any great, open-ended game can do that, but The Show is one of the best examples I've personally experienced.

Once you really get into it, as in, getting past exhibition games and really getting into the meat of Franchise or RttS mode, it just takes over your free time. And the more you play, the more you want to play. In season's past, I even found myself thinking about it when I wasn't playing: what free agent moves should I make? Should I renew player X's contract? Who should I call up from AAA? And of course, just playing the actual games and their individual strategies.

I'm purposely holding off on starting my franchise, primarily for the coming few patches and roster updates, but also because I know once I really get into it, it's going to take over most of my gaming free time for the next few months.

This is precisely why I plan on staying away from franchise mode (as I did with MLB2K before). Between work, my wife, daughter and all my son's baseball games I just do not have the time to waste (and I use that term loosely) consumed by a baseball game. I will plod along with RttS and DD and be happy with that.

PS: I'm finding it VERY hard not to buy packs (with real money)

I already have Neverwinter and The Division doing that. MMOs become like work-from-home jobs, haha. I don't have an issue like that with baseball games, though. I'll spend a couple of hours setting up franchise and building a team I like, then I simulate probably 150 of the season's games. I like doing the roster and lineup management more than playing. I've not been much of a fan of create-a-player modes like 2K's My Player (MLB or NBA) or the one in Madden.

Still finding annoyances with the AI that I can't make go away. I don't know if I can call it rubber band AI but sometimes it feels like it.

What sort of things are you seeing? I only had one last night that wouldn't allow me to move my first basemen to go for a bloop over his head (3 steps back would have put him in line to catch it). Opponent scored the walk-off run in Conquest with that gem.

Has anybody tried Conquest yet? It's interesting, but sort of annoying in that for the most part you'll play the same team over and over when trying to get to the point where you can attack their major hub.

They also need a save option for the DD conquest games; I had to quit the game when my gf got home and it was counted as a forfeit and I lost fans back to the Rockies. I should have just paused it, put the machine to sleep, and come back to it tonight.

Pitching a shutout and up by 2 and then in the 8th inning with 2 outs the AI scored 3 runs off me on pitches that would probably have been balls most of the time. Or when I'm hot at the plate suddenly a pitch right down the middle, you know that big fat perfect pitch is right there and my best hitters who are well rested get good contact but hit grounders into double plays. It's almost like the game forcefully makes you do poorly to keep stats in check, dunno.

It's possible their game has a lean towards logic over physics, as a balance to the fact that seeing pitches in the game is easier than seeing them in real life. If you know how analytics in baseball work, you'll get what I mean when I say it was a BABIP normalization. We see good players miss on good pitches all the time, so that it happened to you isn't surprising.

It happens regardless of sliders in my experience too. It's either deal with it or just win 20-0 every game by setting the difficulty low.

The Show has had issues with too many games feeling "artificially close", especially near the end, for a few years now.

I've found sliders in years past helped mitigate this to a large extent, but I haven't found a set yet that does enough to combat this so far. Of course, it's still early and getting tweaked, so I have faith I'll find the right mix of sliders eventually.

But this is nothing new to this year's game. I remember this going to back to '12 and '13.
Madden and NCAA Football had this problem for years too with what was known as the "Robo QB", where on harder difficulties near the end of games in the 4th quarter, the CPU QB and offense just couldn't miss and would march the length of the field almost effortlessly to tie or win the game, despite how ineffectual they had been up to that point.

Is there somewhere online that explains things in the game? I mean, my son and I are learning as we go along, but there's some things that just perplex me.

Like how am I scoring XP? How does that translate to stubs?
When I use the "guess pitch" option while batting it seems to not help AT ALL.
When I use the "slow mo" option when hitting (I forget what it's called) it seems to not help AT ALL.
Why is David Ortiz pure shit ( )
When you're in RttS and you have a diving catch, it doesn't seem to matter at all when I actually press the "R1" button. I stop the ball every time regardless.
How do I upload new/different music?
Can I just upload a log for my DD team? I don't want to have to freaking make one. (All I want is a simple "W" logo)
The list goes on and on.

I can only surmise on a couple of your questions:

From what I'm seeing, XP is determined by how well you played a half inning. If you are at bat and get 3 outs only forcing the pitcher to throw a few pitches, you'll get little XP because you weren't "smart" about how you approached your at bats. But succeed at the plate and your XP increases. When pitching / fielding, quick innings are rewarded with more XP.

Regarding RttS fielding, I would turn off the showtime fielding option and change it to button or analog. That way you actually have to time your dives, and you don't have to deal with the showtime "feature" when throwing to first on a routine play.

Showtime hitting seems like you get one crack at it (I don't know how the meter refills). Just wait until the reticle around the ball gets down to pretty much just the size of the ball and swing. I just tried it until I got the trophy and now I won't bother with it again.

I finally hit a HR with my rookie David Ortiz in Conquest, so I can't say he's complete shit.
