10-12 bad PSU's

I have 10-12 bad PSU's that have been collected over the last several years (burned out or so old they can't plug into anything anymore), and I was wondering if it would be worth it to strip the copper out of them and sell it.

I don't know much about the copper buis. but crooks seem to make plenty of money at it.

What's your opinion?

Haha, they keep stripping railroads in Holland of the copper lines/tubing. Result is I get late at work or at college Damn copper crooks !

Haha they are PSU's from 386's and other old PC's that people have given me. They don't even have 20 pin connectors! I didn't realize I had so many untill I was cleaning up and about to throw them out.


Would all of them together have a couple lbs of copper?

I think you would be lucky to get a single pound of copper out of all of them. Its really not worth it unless you can get your hands on 10 pounds or more.

I keep hearing storys of people having to replace the pluming under there house because someone came and stole the copper pipes.

Yeah probably not worth it.
It would take quite a bit of time to rip out all the copper and then you will probably only have about a pound or two.

My brother runs an appliance business and he makes a fair bit of money off scrap.
he picks up appliances that people no longer want and piles them behind his shop.
He has a few acres of land back there and he just lets it pile up and sells the used parts of the stuff.

When its stripped to where its no more use he hauls loads of it off as scrap.
He only gets $5 a hundred pounds but with heavy appliances he can make 100-150.00 a load and do 8 loads in a day.
Averages about 2000.00 a week off peoples junk

The person that takes it runs an auto salvage.
He puts the appliances in with the cars and crushes them.
Fun to watch !

It might have some unit value, but you can't realize the salvage value unless you have them in a GOOD amount like truckload a month and a logistics connection. Companies that generates recyclable in a huge quantity have a recycler with an access to freight broker and a lot of scrap ends up in China land where there's a massive demand of raw material and good supply of cheap labor.

manually opening up each PSU and separating the shell from board is a joke here, but in China land, it's realistic.
