Actually, I do know what I am talking about.

My way works, is simple, and cheaper than a rice cooker, and does not take up valuable kitchen space

Who in the hell eats pear or rhubarb applesauce? ICK

OATS? Are you part horse?
That's the educated response of someone who lives on instant rice and thinks fine cuisine is some ramon noodles or "instant cheesy mac".

You mean they arent? Those are staple goods in my household with 2 small children and 2 parents that work full time.

i feel bad for your kids. my friend lives on instant noodles when she's at her house because her parents are too busy to cook. she's been doing it since she was a kid. it's sad..

"Cooks delicious fluffy rice, stews, steamed
vegetables and a variety of other foods."

You shouldnt. We dont eat ramen at our house but my kids regularly ask for mac and cheese and peas, chicken or fish, and ranch and ketchup. (at least my 3 yr old does, my 1 yr old cant speak in sentences yet)..

They love it, it has most of the food groups, and is quick and easy to make. They would rather have that than hamburgers, hot dogs, pizza, etc.

So, dont feel sorry for me. I cook a lot at home and my rice is PERFECT out of the pot.

here's a little trick if you have a rice cooker.

a whole chicken, and 2-3 oz of water gets you perfect steamed chicken in 15 mins! Easy and fast, not to mention very juicy too.

Just use the rice cooker like you cook rice. Yum Yum.....

I use my rice cooker for TONS of stuff. I would have killed to have one back in the college days. You really do have to check out that Ultimate Rice Cooker book with 250 recipes. It's the best cookbook I've ever seen.

>Do you really think for the last thousand years people made rice in a rice cooker?

Well actually they did. Kind of like a double boiler thing heated by a charcoal fire.

If it is perfect for you that is great. No problem. But there are some people that can actually tell the difference between boiled and rice cooker rice, Elephant Brand and Uncle Bens, short and long grain, jasmine and sweet rice, and old and new rice crops. I am not one of them, but my wife is.

My rice cooker broke down only after being used for one week. Also the warmer hardly works. It's more like luke-warmer, and the rice gets spoiled after a day, which doesn't happen with the fuzzy logic rice cooker my parents use.

I guess it's time for me to get a Zojirushi...

i got the cooker a few days ago. works fine so far. there is no line for less than 4 cups of rice which is annoying, but 2 cups of rice with 4 cups of water works decently...

Rice cooker TIP

Buy a size cooker where you can put a bowl inside the rice cooker. That way the rice cooks in the bowl and NO cleanup of the rice cooker.
I have done this for 6 years
I have used glass bowls and a metal bowl.

Interesting. I'd never thought of this...

Do you put a layer of water in there or are the sides of the bowl freestanding in air?
Doesn't the starchy steam still mean some cleanup?

I'd get a National brand instead, I think they are panasonic in the US, not sure. I brought a National back from overseas, it does tons of things but I mainly use it to make rice, 1 cup works too since I got a small one. Theres tons of settings on it and can cook crapload of stuff. Theres even a fast mode...
