I think that there is a time and a place for it, but I also think that every company/website out there tries to be a part of it when there is really no need.

There are many other uses for forums than simply socializing. The general AT forums (aside from the "Social" section which does include ATOT) are not the same as a Twitter, Facebook, Myspace, Instagram, Tumbler, Vine and whatever else the 'flavor of the month' social media site is.

Besides, who is to say that I don't think that the AT Social forums aren't annoying? P&N certainly is. ATOT can be at times. The Garage and Health and Fitness can have more useful purposes than to simply show off what you're eating for the day so I'm not sure that they are 100% 'Social'. I suspect that they are in the 'Social" section of AT because they do not fall under Hardware or Software of the technology world.

I assure you that I will never be able to get help from Facebook or Twitter on hardware and software issues that I could find on the AT forums.

The problem I have with social media is that the people you know in real life would rather talk to you that way then in person, over the phone, etc . Here, I don't know any of you and I like to keep it that way.

Depends on where you go. There are some technical Facebook pages and the like.

Forums are easier to search though.

The problem with facebook style social media is that 90% of the interaction is the kind of social interaction that is the most annoying. It is exceptionally ME-centric. At least twitter drops all pretense and calls them followers instead of friends.

Maybe if my actual friends used facebook I'd find value in it as it stands I only use it to stay in touch with my sister that comes from the generation raised on facebook/myspace and by extension my family that uses it.

Yeah... that's a big one. I never got into MySpace but people would send me the link to their page around 2003-2004 and it was just stupid, mindless shit. Hot green text with a forest green background and stupid music, stupid font I can't read.
