Just in case you're planning some home improvement purchases, Home Depot is offering active duty military, military veterans, and their families 10% off purchases (up to a $200 total discount) through May 29. Pick up a coupon at the services desk.

I saw that too. I wonder how I would prove that? My Dad was in the Army back in the Vietnam days. I am sure he doesn't carry any type of military ID or proof that he is a veteran.

You could get his DDForm 214 proving his honorable discharge. He should have it somewhere still. Or if he doesn't he can order a copy of it from the VA. If you don't have a base in your area ask at the local recuiting office for help. They should be happy to help.

I will call him and see if he has anything he could fax me. Probably too much trouble to go to the VA office and all that for what it is worth, but maybe. Thanks.

Also got 10% off at Lowe's with military ID. Small sign was posted on the exit door? Asked cashier and got discount at the register without a coupon needed.

most dd214's are available online now

also lowes offered a similar deal but you have to be active or retired, just being a vet wasn't good enough

I was told when I got discharged from the corps to keep DD214 in a safe deposit box. they said it was a pain in the arse to get it replaced. Might be easier now day with the internet. I have never looked into it. Then again I don't need to I know right where it is. I am sure your dad knows where his is also.

I saw signs in the Local Home Depot. They will take DD-214's as stated and also ID cards from the VA, Disabled American veterans, American Legion (I have all three), and other veterans groups.

A buddy of mine works at home depot and he said after a while they just started giving the discount to anyone who asked for it, vet or not.

It's true. I worked at Home Depot and they'll give the discount to anybody. Actually, you can probably get 10% off pretty much any time you want by asking as long as you're not buying like $10,000 worth of stuff. People would ask about giving them better deals all the time, so I'd ask the manager and he'd say "Just give him 10% off."

Just go by that asshat's house from the VA. He seemed to have about 27million DD 214s.

Good for HD, but 10% up to $200? Kinda lame if you ask me. If you want to show support for the armed forces, and not just blatantly appear to be trying to boost your sales, give them something worth while. How about 20-30%? Or maybe cost+10%? Some of those items are probably 90-95% markup no joke; 10% up to $200 is lame IMO, but better than nothing.
