Then don't listen to their life/brag stories. Get in and get done, then go on to finish your four year degree. You'll encounter less older people when you're in a four-year institution and then you wouldn't have to complain about hearing life lessons that you might make in due time.

It may be time to take initiative and control by politely reminding them not to distract the class with their off-topic stories. You and several others are in that class to learn, not have a social chat hour. Remind the person of this to help the teacher get the class back on track. Many teachers/professors do not know how to do this and will appreciate the assistance. It is your job as a student to remove or overcome all obstacles to your education.

I'm sure you all take a break during class. If you had a hair on your tiny balls you'd address the matter like a man instead of bitching about it on the internet.

Here's how I would handle it:

Me: Hey, so what do you think of this class?
Them: Not bad, it's gonna help...<blah, blah, blah>
Me: That's good. You know, I think we could get done earlier if we all cut back on the discussion a bit.
Them: Yeah, some people run on quite a bit sometimes.
Me: No doubt. Hey, pass the word on to the others and let's just knock this shit out each night.

Pretty simple. Do that one or two more times with different class mates and I can almost guarantee it will be successful.

The job market sucks, that's why. People are going back to school to try to get competitive in the market. Sadly, they won't get much out of it as far as education goes.

I tend to agree with that statement. We've shipped the jobs offshore that many of these people do and now they are trying to jump into a new field and compete with the youngsters...but that's another thread.

You know i'm not too sure i'm interested in your life story either. Seems slightly hypocritical you get so pissed at them for telling you something you don't give a crap about then immediatly go home and write a post about your sad existence which nobody here seems to give a crap about either

I attended community college in 1988 / 1989. I was 19 at the time. The oldest guy in our class was around 50 at the time and he had a few fans but mostly nobody really cared. We then went on our Christmas break.

After comming back in the new year our teacher made an announcement that made everyone gasp. I remember the sound of those gasps to this day 21 years later - we found out that he died of a sudden heart attack on Christmas day.

It was shocking and sad because he had a personality that stood out and at 50 he was starting over again. God rest his soul.

I have never read something so funny, what's worse is that I'm not sure if that's actually how you handle situations like this.

Maybe you could learn something from them? I have some friends who are much older than I am and some who are younger. Don't be so negative dude.

It's not meant as a verbatim script, dipshit. Also, you find it funny because you're socially inept like the OP and don't know how to interact with adults either.

Feel free to suggest alternative solutions. I have a feeling you can't come up with any because...well, you're incapable of doing so.

Community College? I'd be embarrassed to even list that on a resume to be honest with you. Almost as embarrassing as admitting to attending DeVry.

I'd be more embarrassed about incurring a 40k debt only to end up working at the same place as someone who went to community college who has no debt.

High end college/universities are overrated. Get your diploma, get a job. Unless there's a place you want to work that has very specific requirements I see no point in doing anything more.

As for the OP, consider those life stories as possible lessons you may encounter later in life, they could maybe even be helpful in some cases.
