Thanks, but it looks more like a 'made in Korea' scope with russian glass.

For under $8 it's a hot deal, definitely (for those who can make some use of it: most of us never need a scope).

Just a note that "high quality Russian optics " is a misconception. We used to use russian cameras (Zenith), but then switched to western brands: the quality doesn't even compare with German and Japanese.

actually the russians can make some very good optics,they just tend to be built like tanks, made of thick steel instead of aluminum for example. Check TAL scopes to see what I mean.....as for this this offerring ..not even if you paid me 4.95

I thought the same thing... As for harborfreight, I would take a look at anything before you purchase it. Most of there stuff is cheap, cheap cheap build quality. I will browse around there and find some good deals other stuff will break in a month or so. IMHO

I definetely would not want to have optics made of steel. But I do not think aluminum would be much of an improvement either. I would definitely prefer a slightly more transparent material.

I agree; I still use a russian 21/4 by 21/4 camera and it has excellent optics. Though small there is nothing light about the steel used in this camera.
