While this router will not permit an MTU setting higher than 1412, it will permit a lower setting. I found 1400 to give better connection speeds than 1412.

Siemens SpeedStream's routers are made by the same OEM manufacturer that makes SMC routers in Taiwan. How do I know?? I have routers from both companies and not only do they look physically identical, but the administrative interface are the same.
Both routers have been running great w/o any problem.
The only downside I see on this router is the WAN port runs only 10Mbps, which isn't fast enough in case your network gets an upgrade in the future. Some newer models have 100Mbs on WAN port.
