I'm using this in an ASUS board. It works great. It's the same size as a floppy drive and you can mount it internally.

Hrm. That's interesting. I don't think you have to use a BIOSTAR board. It's a USB device.

Ah.. that's not big then I sware I thought it was the size of a 5.25" floppy drive!

Reading the reviews from Newegg's site, people don't have problems with using it on OTHER boards.

$9.50 for a six in one card reader shipped? Amazing, and it works as advertised. Just plug it in a USB port, and it works. XP installs drivers automagically. Yes, do be aware it doesn't plug into a header, so to install internally, you MUST make it go out the back of the PC into an external USB port, and with the bulge in the cable, this can be interesting to accomplish since the bulge is too big to fit through a PCI cut out. However, there are no issues simply plugging it in externally. I've installed it on an MSI KM266 chipet and Soltek NForce2 motherboard without any issues whatsoever.

There is an old 100+ post thread about this drive in the archive. You can still plug it into the motherboard header if you buy this.. It's a $6 Belkin motherboard cable. Just unscrew one of the ports and use it inside your case.

Thanks... Well I wish it wasn't in archieve because I've spent days looking for a reader at a good price. and i'm sure if people search for "6in1" or "reader" they will not find anything (like myself). and if you're looking at HOTDEALS, usually things that are old enough to be in archieve are more likely expired offers. Just my opinion.

But i'm sorry that this was a report.

ALtho newegg mentions that it works with biostar MB's only it seems to work fine in most MB. I have it hooked up internally in a DFI infinity MB. If your MB has usb headers just get a usb bracket and connect the bracket to the MB header and the reader to the bracket internally. The reader is quite small unlike the pic from newegg. Here's a pic of it hooked up.

I have two of these and they're great. They are light, small as a 3.5 floppy and fast for an older USB device. I have one with my laptop and one at home and have never had a problem.

Does anyone have any real world experience comparing a USB 2.0 card reader to a USB 1.1? Is there a difference in speed or is the bottleneck in reading the card?

whizbang, one of the computer mags did just such a comparison recently. The bottleneck is definitely in the cards. USB 2.0 readers max out at about 2 to 3X as fast as 1.1 readers. So it's nothing like the 40X increase you might hope to see.

This thing is GREAT!

quite neat and gives the case a nice touch.. not to mention having to waste the batteries on my Olympus C-4000...

I'll probably buy another one for my parents when the Canon A80 comes out. Hopefully the A80 can be less than $350...

Not every format, but for every slot. So unfortunately it shows 4 drive letters... It would have been better if the drive letters went away after the media gets injected.

Yes, it's silver.

If you were looking for a white one Newegg has a white one here for $9 shipped.

Keep in mind that the silver one has what some people call a "ghetto hookup". Its connector is a regular USB connector rather than a connector that will connect to the USB header on your motherboard. So, if you are going to install this internally, you have to route the USB cable outside the back of your case and then connect it to the USB connector on the back of your case. Probably not a big deal since it's all occurring in the back of the case where there are a bunch of wires anyway. I'll probably just set mine on top of the case and run the cable to the back since the silver color doesn't match my white case.

All you need to do is get a cheapie USB pci card that comes with an internal usb port. The maxtor usb card allows you to connect a usb device inside the computer instead of routing it to the outside of the case.

I notice a huge difference. Not the 40x difference but when downloading the pictures - 3.2 MegaPixels, ~1.5 megs each, the speed is nice. I like to take 50 pictures of my 14 month old and d/l them at once. I would recommend a 2.0 device for the serious user.
