Thanks scorch, but you'd have crushed me. I'm a turtle next to you. Columbus is going to be awesome for you.

Tiffany and I did a pretty quick 4 miler on the dark and rainy Catharine Valley Trail tonight. She loved it and I had a great time running with my daughter.

I sure hope so, Mega! But you're still an ultra-marathoner and I'm just a lowly road whore! I had a huge workout planned today; 16 miles with 4 miles at MP, 3 miles at LT, 2 miles at 10K and 1 mile at 5K like I did a fee weeks ago. Totally blew it today though; ended up doing 3 miles at 10 seconds slower than MP feeling like I was doing 10K pace so I said screw it and just jogged 14 miles feeling like 10 pounds of crap in a 5 pound bag. still a nice 18 mile day though! I also did 8 miles on Monday and 13 on Tuesday for another 39 to add.

This made me chuckle. Lowly. haha

I have those runs every once in a while. What I like is when I head out for a run that I think is going to be like this one but actually turns out to be a great run. I guess it goes both ways, eh?

Good job nonetheless.

Scorch, for the not so savvy...
what does it mean 4 miles at MP and 3 miles at LT?

MP - marathon pace

LT - maybe long tempo pace? lactate threshold?

Truth of the matter: Scorch is far more scientific about his training than I am. He's the real deal.

You got it. MP is marathon pace, so the pace at which I want to run my marathon. For me, that's 6:05 pace (2:39 overall time) LT is lactate threshold, or the pace at whoch your blood lactate levels plateau. The faster you run, the more lactate your muscles produce, and your body can only buffer it so quickly. By running at LT pace (also known as tempo pace, or roughly the pace you could hold for one hour), your teach your body to buffer the lactate more efficiently, letting you run at faster speeds for longer periods of time.

I don't do "LT" runs on a regular basis, maybe once a week. Do you think that's enough? Though, to be honest, I don't run fast much. Matter of fact, the training plan I'm loosely following almost discourages speed work. It stresses hill work and long runs with active recovery.

I wouldn't do them any more than once a week. I usually try for 2-3 "quality" days in a week, consisting of long runs, races, intervals, tempo runs, or MP runs. For longer races, especially ultras, none of that really matters because all you are concerned with is longevity. The ultra-long runs build crazy endurance, the hill work builds strength and speed, and recovery is the stuff that actually makes you get better, so I'd say you're fine!

No problem wayliff.

I'm guesstimating about 15 miles today in 2 hours and 10 minutes. I don't have the time to string measure my route on a map. haha I found some new trails to run on and new segments of trails I've already been on. Incredible views. My legs did great, cardio was spot on, and plain ole gatorade was fine. I could have doubled my distance today but a LONG run was not called for this week in my training plan. That's next weekend. All in all, a most excellent run on some swanky technical trails.
