Been a while since I posted in here, and I haven't recorded any of my training runs. I did the Big Sur marathon on Sunday. What a gorgeous course. It was hilly and the road slants from left to right from mile 20 on which is hell on your ankles and knees, but it was a ton of fun.

I didn't treat it as a race and stopped at a lot of places along the way to take pictures - it was an excuse to run the Pacific coast highway for me.

I did that run last year and plan on doing it several more times before I die. Big Sur is one of my favorite places period.

+2.2 of sheer torture. Ran the bleachers at my local high school to simulate hill work. My quads. They be blown up. Girlfriend even got in on action running the track while self flagellated on the bleachers.

Haven't posted since before the marathon. Have a half-marathon for Memorial Day but don't know if my knee is going to allow it.

8 miles today on the soft trails at Lake Louisa. My knee felt perfect, now I'm really confused.

Whatever it is, it needs to stop. At this rate there is no way I can be ready for P2P if I have to keep holding back. There are other 100s later in the year, but I really want to go to Oregon.

Knee felt just a tad "off" when I got out of bed this morning so I decided to not go for a run. It's 60, breezy, and not humid out. FML.

I agree. Ive got essentially one race a month from now until September. None are 100miles but still I wanna race and hopefully place in some of these.

My knee does that sometimes - feels slightly sore and achy when I'm just sitting around and haven't run in a while, but feels fine when I start to get moving. I can't explain it, but I've stopped letting it affect my training until it gets worse. Maybe the knee joint is like a car engine - once it gets warmed up and gets the fluid moving in it, it's fine?

Going easy this week. Next week vacation in Tennessee which means at least 3 runs that will pure hill/mountain work.

I too have not posted in a while, who the heck knows how many miles Ive run since, but I will put in the quarter marathon I did on Saturday.
+6.9 (The course ran long and I did not run tangents, there were 14,000 people running it, so it was crowded almost the whole way, we'll call it 7 for roundness)

I've been staying true to my plan to cut way back on my running and my knee does feel so much better. No pain at all when I walk or even go up and down stairs, but there is still that odd weakness or instability that bothers me. It's so weird.

I plan on doing 10 miles or so Friday morning as my next test, and I will not be wearing my knee strap to begin the run. I will carry it along just in case though.

Curious, what you are using for a knee strap. I found an IT band strap causing more harm than good to my knee and have just been wearing a neoprene sleeve over my knee which helps but isn't the most comfortable.

It's an IT band strap that I got from CVS. Nothing fancy, but I have found the same to be true, it seems to be causing as much trouble as it helps. That's why I decided to go for it without the strap when I run on Friday. At least on flat terrain I should be fine.

4.5 miles this morning with no knee strap and I was pain free. I didn't all out run, took it nice and easy, but yeah. No pain.

+10 miles today. First time I have ever in my entire life run that far all at once. Felt pretty ok save for being quite humid and yet also quite windy as well.

My knee feels ok I guess?? Not sure. It hurt at a few points while running but now that I'm resting at home feels fine minimal to no pain.

5.1 miles this morning, ran along the lake. Absolutely no knee pain, and my right quad seems to be back to normal now, too. I'm very excited, I may not have to take an extended hiatus after all.

Repositioned my IT band strap and was able to just run 12 miles without any knee pain. Woot!

Edit - take a little of that back. My knee is hurting going up and down stairs.

+5 hiking/fast walk/ran the flat parts of Abrams trail in the smoky mountains.

Gonna run the road that leads to our cabin from town tomorrow morning. +/-1000ft of elevation change in 2.2 miles....might be a real short run!!
